Default How do you get rid of profit????

Im about to pull my hair out. I have removed profit from my UI folder, I have deleted and uninstalled the updater and I have deleted my EQ ini files but this UI will not go away. Please help me get rid of this craptastic AI so I can play the game again. I have Vista 64

If you have removed the profitui directory and the eq2.ini file it will be gone. If it is not you probably have multiple installs of eq2 and are trying to clean out the wrong one. That might also be why you are having a poor user experience with the ui, you are not updating the install of eq2 that you are playing.

Was gonna quote Silat on this but decided to post something different.

Type /loadui in game and select default. There you should now have a new eq2.ini file with Default being the UI you see

Logged into game and selected default ui and made it the default. Logged back in and its still on profit. Any other options?

I cant find any trace of profit or another instance of EQ2 on my computer anywhere and Im at the end of my rope. THanks much for the quick responses.

I believe that Eq2 will rebuild the entire UI folder if you delete/rename it.

If that doesn;t work then what you are telling us is not what is actually happening.

Ok.... Step by step...

Had EQ2 for a month and zero custom UI.

Heard about Profit today and downloaded the auto updater for profit.

I dont like it.

Go to Computer > Sony > EQ2 > UI ..... Remove profit folder

Go to Control Panel > Programs > Add / Remove program / Delete Profit UI Reborn Updater.

Go to Computer > Sony > EQ2 > Show hidden files > Delete EQ2.ini file.

Edit : Upon further investigation it appears that this Profit UI only shows up when using the EQ2 icon or the Station Launcher. If I launch the game with the EQ2 map button, this problem doesnt exsist and doing /loadui doesnt even show Profit being installed. So WTF do I do ?

Restart computer

Boot up EQ2.. Profit is still here.

/loadui Set to default . Doesnt revert.

Log back out, restart computer. Launch EQ2 . Profit still loads.

I dont know what Im missing, and this is exactly what I have done.

by what you said above with eq2 map launcher not having Profit when you launch from that you do indeed have 2 installations of Everquest 2 on your system.

One is probally C:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest 2\ and the other in one of the many god forsaken places they put it.

I would suggest that you go to eq 2 map and find out which file it points to for Everquest 2 then go to that folder and delete UI from that folder. Delete EQ2.ini and then run the game.

BTW what you are telling us is nearly impossible if you deleted eq2.ini then the game would load default provided its being run from the actual folder where you deleted the UI from. Also make sure you are seeing profit and not the default in the 1st place because you could think this UI is craptastic because you're still seeing default ui :P

I'm guessing that either:
  1. the OP has EQ2 installed in 2 different places (show hidden files and system files and look for everquest2.exe, the new streaming client likes to put it in a different folder than the CD does), or,
  2. the OP is mixed up between the ProfitUI interface pieces and the ProfitUI layout that it pushes forward, which stays even when you've removed the interface mods. If it's the layout that's bugging you, you need to remove the _servername_charname_uisettings.xml files so at your next login you'll have a default layout. (this will undo all your custom layout stuff, so don't do it unless you've totally ruled out #1)

If you're seeing actual ProfitUI pieces, like casting buttons on your group and raid windows, then you're looking at #1 (unless you got really confused and copied the ProfitUI files into the default folder to overwrite the games original files).

If your desktop shortcut is loading profitUI, then rt-click it, click properties, and click "open target location" in the shortcut properties, go to the ui folder in that eq2 folder, and delete that folder's profitui folder.

If the OP had done that the game would redownload them. Hence why you need a different folder for custom UI

I believe I have found my issue, not sure yet. My EQ2 was under program files (86) and the profit UI and others were not showing up there because I had deleted them.

However in googling this issue and an issue I had related to eq2 maps, I may have stumbled onto something.

Under computer > A:\ is where I found a hidden directory called Program Data. It was under this file that I found EQ had installed and lo and behold the profit UI was still under that folder.

Here is to hoping this will fix the issue by removing it under the Program Data folder.

you can always right click - properties your eq2 game shortcut to see where it's actually running from =)

Windows 7 is a complete disaster. Right clicking on the icon will not offer 'Properties'.

I installed Fetish/Nightfall in the C:\program files (x86)\Everquest2. It is in the right place. The eq2.ini reads correctly. Fetish/Nightfall will not load. /loadui does not offer Fetish/Nightfall.

It took forever to find a way to get the extensions to list.

Microsoft actually found a way to scramble everything. And remove any way of fixing anything.

The issue is not Windows 7, it's SOE and the user. Your real install is most likely in C:\ProgramData\, which is a hidden folder and thus won't show up unless you set the option to view hidden folders (and you can blame SOE for it installing there).

Also, please don't hijack someone else's thread.
