Default Round Compass Now, Wit the new map?

I like the compass as it is, but reading other post seems like some people want a round compass, which was impossible before.

I'm not at all familiar with this stuff, and I am only just now getting into the UI mods, but since the map is now changed to an arrow to indicat the direction you are facing, shouldn't it be possible to use that information in a round compass mod?

The arrow was a hardcoded change made by sony (the dot never changed direction) so theres really nothing we can "look at"

the problem with a round compass.. right now all we can do is point the game to a strip for the compass and the game is hardcoded to move the strip left and right as you turn. I dont think we'll ever be able to make it go in a circle. Once upon a time tho, sony had one..

Sony's aborted round compass.

Well, that seems odd that they would go to the trouble to code in the rotating arrow for the map, and not go ahead and put in the rotating compass at the same time. I sure appreciate that arrow though!

Come to think of it.

I don't think there is a single rotating image we have in the entire UI.

Well. besides the new map arrow.

Not really hard for them to figure out which way your heading on the map. Would still be different from making a compass that rotates, but nothing hard. In addition, the arrow isn't really anything new, it just replaced the old circle image, which can't really "point" in a direction because welll... it's a circle

the clock rotates.

strange thing about both the map arrow and compass, its based on your camera direction rather than character direction.

We tried that mod, the circle never rotated. Game code was added to make the arrow work.

Could you make a copy of the map arrow in a custom window that shows all the time? Then perhaps change the graphic of that copy?

Default just a thought

What about layers and transparancy that way it could just be a copy of the map with nothing showing but a compass graphic and the arrow. That way you dont need to reinvent the wheel and sony did most of the hard coding lol.

They acctually might of had plans for this...

UI\Default\images\newui\

check out compass.dds

Also, why are there so many EQ1 dds/tga files in my default directory? what kinda mess is that?

there's a compass DDS file in the /Default/ directory as well, but it's a lil different. Plus I can't tell EQ1, from EQ1 scapped, to EQ2, and EQ1 scrapped, lol.
