Default Profit just... poofed.

Guildmate of mine currently cannot even get profit to work. He logged in and it was just.. gone.

He normally loads the game automatically from the eq2map updater, and /load_uisettings doesn't show anything related to profit.

Is there anything I can suggest to him other than reinstalling the UI? He's run the updater for profit twice now and it's still not working.

He prob re-downloaded the entire game into a new place b/c of the new launcher. Thus there is no ProfitUI in that install of the game.

Default Same problem for me

I have the same problem. My update installed in the same place with ProfitUI as well. It also looks to have auto-updated 12/06/2011.

I also have no ProfitUI, no matter what I do. I uninstalled and reinstalled the entire game, and noticed that there is no eq2.ini file, even after logging into the game before installing the custom ui. One is not generated. When I then reinstalled the ProfitUI from updater, it inserted the file. Maybe EQ isn't referencing the .ini file anymore? Because I can't load any custom interface at all, its as if the game doesn't even see them, I only get the default options when I try /loadui. This is highly, highly frustrating and stupid.

Not sure what's going on. I have Profit installed in six instances each on two machines. So far none of them has disappeared. I'm sure that there is some install sequence I haven't tried.

But eq2.ini is still consulted at launch and Profit should work. We need to figure what happened in these cases.

1) Right click the icon you use to launch eq2 ( the one you do not see profitui on). Choose properties. Look in the start in or working folder. That is the path to the installation of eq2 you are using.

2) Launch the profit updater.

3) On the left top of the updater screen choose settings and then file paths.

4) Look in the everquest2 folder field. If you are not seeing profit from in game then this field will not match the result of step 1.

5) Click the choose button to the right of the field.

6) Navigate to the install location of eq2 found in step 1.

7) Click choose. Click ok. Click update.

8) Play eq2!

Thanks Silat, but the paths of my launch icon and the paths of my ProfitUI folder are identical, so the problem must be elsewhere...still no custom UI.

Oky doky. I cannot replicate the issue. Like Therendil I have multiple instances of eq2 on several computers and they are all working fine. As an additional test I just redownloaded the game and redownloaded the profit updater and received all the profit files and see profit in game in the new install. So if it is not a pathing issue then it must be very sporadic.

Okay, don't know if this will help, but...

I launched the game without doing the updater, it found profit no problem. I exited the game, did the auto-updater, relaunched--and now, no profit. It's there in the UI folder, if I use the launcher to find the game folder it finds my correct folder and it's all there, but when I launch the game, no profit.

Well, that's a good clue at least because it defines a pretty clear 'before and after' event. I know that eq2.ini tells the client where to get its UI. Is that still there in the EverQuest II folder? The first two lines should be
Code:
cl_ui_skinname ProfitUI
cl_ui_subdir UI/
If eq2.ini got deleted or changed, you wouldn't see Profit. You should be able to call it up with /loadui but that command has been known to break. I have not tested /loadui since the new content went live.

If that ain't it, we'll think of something else to check.

Okay, I'm running the game right now, profit-less. And yes, the .ini file is still there, and the code is still in it. So, not sure what that means...I'll leave that up to you.

If you would try this and let me know the result it would be appreciated.

Open your eq2 folder.
Look for a file named servername_charactername_eq2_uisettings and rename it to servername_charactername_eq2_uisettings_bak and then launch eq2 and log into that character to see if profit reappears.

Just to be sure, I am renaming the .ini files that are named like that, correct?

No. The xml file. The ini ones are not used anymore (I think anyway). You could do both to be sure. And you only need to do one just to test.

Okay, I'm being dumb here... I had a hell day at work, and my brain is jello. I had Fetish files going as well, and I'm wondering if that had anything to do with it. Although, the updater thing still stands...with the before and after issue.

Changing the file name to _bak did bring up the "choose UI setting window", and I was able to choose profit from those, with the usual profit 1024x768 etc. settings. So hopefully that helps.

I followed your instructions, Tal and I still have no profit. all files are pointing in the same direction and at the same files. I renamed , per instructions and this has not alleviated the issue.

Edit... after reading the other threads about how the launcher was changed, i went to file path.. chose bypass launcher.. loaded in to the eq spalsh screen.. then it gave me a Profit UI log in.. I typed my station password and character name.. it loaded right up.

hope this helps
