Updater no longer changing eq2.ini?
Hi,
I'm using ProfitUI for EQ2, my girlfriend - using my computer during the day - doesn't. We used to handle it the way that she just replaced the ProfitUI eq2.ini with a standard one.
When I want to play I start the updater which used to replace this eq2.ini with the ProfitUI one. This worked for several months.
For the last few weeks the updater did not notice that the correct eq2.ini was missing and I ended up in EQ2 with standard UI, aka not playable.
Why is the updater not replacing the eq2.ini. It used to do this...
I checked the ignored files and eq2.ini is not on this list.
Thx,
Deverill

the file will only update if its older than the one you have so if she is editing the eq2.ini then saving it that file is now newer than the one on the patcher. Try deleting the eq2.ini file and it should update. What I would do is make a batch file to delete or rename your profit ini to eq2.ini then when she wants to play have it delete the eq2.ini and you simply copy profitui.ini to eq2.ini each time. Or you can use the updater after deleting eq2.ini

That's incorrect, file date is irrelevant to the updater, it's working based on file hashes. Also eq2.ini is still on the updater, so if it does not get updated you are possibly updating the wrong folder.

That would be the preferable solution IMO.

Actually as long as the eq2.ini is not missing, it will not be updated. Maybe I could include an option to always overwrite files.
But currently I am on a business trip to Finland til end of July, and besides gorgeous women and cheap 3g internet access they have a lot of work for me to do, so it may take a while...

Erm, should make that the default IMO, otherwise we cannot really claim that you can install ProfitUI with the updater. And now I finally understand why that failed for some people until they installed it manually once, lol.

It really should warn, to allow for people who've added things to the stock eq2.ini (eg. the settings to disable the intro movie and the welcome screen pop-up, or to allow for chat channels on multiple tabs at the same time). The absolute ideal would be to only add/change the two lines needed to activate ProfitUI, but maybe "If eq2.ini's missing then install ProfitUI's version, otherwise warn the user and give them the option of overwriting it or seeing details of what they need to change to manually update it."?

From reading on the forums unless a user has created an eq2.ini there isn't one. I know I always tell people to go to everquest 2 directory and open eq2.ini and they tell me there isn't one. I then ask if they have been using the default ui and when I hear yes I started looking into it and only if you have installed a custom UI is there an EQ2.ini file at all.
Now on the other hand if they have wanted to disable those things they would of created one and then a confirm would be needed.
