Thumbs Up ADVICE: To all who wish to add bookmarks to browser

Ok, I've found that the bookmark editing is alot more sensitive than one would imagine. First of all, if you accidently miss ANY tags, your UI won't even load for you what-so-ever. Second, if you don't copy EXACTLY how it is s'posed to be written, even IF your UI loads, your bookmarks will not appear. So, my advice is this, copy and paste the pervious bookmarks and then change them as you wish. Also, do NOT, and I repeat do NOT place your header or bookmarks underneath google at the top. I believe the reason for this is becase top url = homepage? it does seem to be the case. If anyone has any troubles with editing/adding bookmarks, I'll be glad to assist you as I know how frustaiting this can be since I had issues myself before I went through it with a fine comb and fixed my issues myself.

Sticky Request, moderators please read and consider: I was thinking maybe this should be a sticky to help those who may have this issue in the future? since it does cause some major issues with the client if not done properly and I feel that this may help people before they start screaming about it, heh. If anyone feels a need to comment on this, either be for or against the idea for this to be stickied, please share your views so that the mods may be able to make a decision on based on community vote if they so wish.

Hehe, glad you fixed it. It is however not true that you cannot place your own bookmarks below the first line (google). After all, I managed to do so as well. You can place them anywhere where those three points are below:
<DataSource Name="ProfitUI_BookmarksDS">
...
</DataSource>
And the fact that that things break if you do not keep those files in exactly the format they are in is of course true for any file that is part of the interface (as it says in my FAQ).

Oh, and no sticky.

If it does not work, you likely installed it incorrectly. Always try a clean install before reporting bugs.

Have you tried placing a header above "google" instead of below it? or place no header and just add more url links? btw, google doesn't seem to even show up on the bookmarks and i found my home page = the first URlL after google. Also it is not just the format of the file that can brake the whole UI, if you do not include the right tags and coding it will brake the entire UI. Basically it just won't load at all, that is fact since I have done so myself and tested it on other files that you would modify such as even your LoginData. You must make sure all coding is as it should be to the letter and that you save it in the format you opened it in which of course would be .txt for these files in question. Also, another thing I found is the bookmarks list turns blank on alternative tabs on the browser so you can't use bookmarks for those tabs for some reason.

If you're having trouble editing XML files I would recommend using Notepad++ with the xml plug in since the color coding and xml validation ensures that you aren't making any careless mistakes.

If your xml files have errors in them you'll usually see a file called ui.log in your UI folder.

If you can't figure out a problem you can just attach your file here in the forums and we can usually help you.

From the w3school:

The W3C XML specification states that a program should not continue to process an XML document if it finds an error. The reason is that XML software should be easy to write, and that all XML documents should be compatible.

Google does show up, at least it does for me. I did however notice a problem with not being able to click that entry (or rather nothing happens if you do), I'll fix that.

Also you homepage is not influenced by your bookmarks. You can set your homepage by clicking the button at the far right of the window.

Confirmed. No idea how that broke, but will fix. Thanks for mentioning it.

Dude, first of all, you already recommended this editor program to me, and as much as I appreciate that cus yes it is useful and yes I do now use it, its getting old since yeah, I do actually use it now and no I am not having anymore xml issues. Infact I never did, you just assumed that I did. I was talking about the txt files and about trying to replace the xml files with new ones I had found on the net. Anyways, this thread wasn't even created for asking for help, thats why I had that thread locked, I don't need any help! I am giving advice to others! that is why I posted "ADVICE: to those who wish to add bookmarks to browser" not "ADVICE: for how to edit browser and bookmarks" cus I already know how. So thanks but please get off the old record, you're starting to sound like an advertisement bot or mindless drone with only 1 program in its memory banks.

First of all, no problem, glad to be of assistance. Second, I found that by default thats what it goes to when you hit the home button before you actually set it, go figure. I hope you manage to sort out the minor bugs and still think the issues regarding the tags should be mentioned unless it already has and if so I apologize since I have not gotten around to reviewing FAQ yet.

Hehe, sorry, I'll try to remember not to recommend Notepad++ to you again. I often can't remember every post I make from one day to the next.

Your subject was "ADVICE" but some of your advice didn't make much sense to me. The Google bookmark thing is a bug in the browser window script that should be pretty easy to fix. I was just posting my advice to you or anyone that had problems editing the xml files.

All of the Profit text files are xml files. I think gm9 calls them .txt to point out that they are editable by the user, but they're still xml files.

CrimsonDivine, tone it down please, that was uncalled for. We are all just trying to help, so be nice.

All the browser bugs I was aware of are now fixed, just rerun the updater. As I said before, the issue you are having with google is not a bug. You must have configured Google as you homepage at one point, possibly just clicking all the buttons.

Correct, they are all in XML format. Every .txt file is a file that contains variables for interface functions and is meant to be editable by the users and will be supported as such (including that I will give special notice if I change one of them). If you edit an .xml you are on your own though.
