Default EQ2 dumping into Docs and Settings

If I start EQ2 without EQ2MAP auto updater, EQ2 will proceed to re-download EVERY, SINGLE file into

C:\Documents and Settings\*MAINUSER*(While logged in with this user\

Hopefully I don't have to explain this but I will anyway. *MAINUSER is my user name. EQ2 throws itself into this folder like it's C:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest 2. This is a problem. I don't need anyone putting files in there. That is a main part of the Windows operating system as far as settings for programs, cookies, and various other important files that are vital to the overall function of my system and how it is operated.

I am suggesting that someone look into this. Or if this issue has popped up in the past and I missed it, why does this occur? It never happens when I use EQ2MAP to start EQ2.

The map updater has nothing to do with where EverQuest 2 puts it's files. The only files it has control over is the eq2map files and even then it puts there where you tell it to. You tell it where everquest is and what ui directory to use and that's where it puts things. To start with, I'd suggest you look at where you told eq2map updater everquest2 is and where your shortcut points to and make sure they are the same thing. In your shortcut make sure that target path and working path are the same

No. I didn't tell it to put the files in my Documents and Settings folder. I have made no modifications to any of the files I downloaded from this website and installed them according to instruction.

How come Launchpad just decides to re-download the entire game into that directory. It's not downloading Maps into the Docs and Settings folder it's downloading the entire game installation.

Making a shortcut for EQ2MAP is not going to download an entire EQ2 installation into a different folder based on that shortcut. Something has to tell EQ2 that the game installation exists there or doesn't exist there in this case and then it gets installed there.

Oh well, I guess you have to get used to buggy software when you constantly make changes to a games files. Just remember, anytime I start EQ2 from the Launchpad (which is always) I will be watching. I am going to post this in the Everquest 2 forums and any other place I can until I find out what is causing this. A shortcut on my desktop is not going to make Launchpad resintall and re-download the entire game, come on. That's not it.

The only way it will download EverQuest 2 files into your docs folder is if you put the EverQuest.exe in your docs folder and your running it there. So check where your shortcut icon is pointing when you launch it with out eq2map. If its pointing to the Exe in your docs folder then we know thats the problem.
