Default IE link in updater text

When I run the patcher there is a link to "our site" in the text which is very handy, but does it have to open up IE?

I use Firefox and would much rather have it use my default browser and not open up IE for the link if at all possible.

Pretty please =)

i use opera myself, and have not used IE in over 7 years, EXCEPT when the autoupdater runs, and when the eq2 launchpad runs... i can't stand it when apps decide to use the IE controls to show web pages. clicking on links should use whatever the system has associated with the http protocol, not defaulting to IE.

i don't know if there is much that can be done on eq2map's end, short of figuring another method to push the "motd data" ... because it seems, and i may be repeating myself, whenever a link is pushed on a window that uses IE to display pages, it will open up in IE.

there must be an easy way to change this locally, but i haven't a clue.

I think you pretty much nailed it... The program uses IE to show the page with the link in it, and so it uses IE to open that link.

It's the same reason that EQ2 opens links in IE instead of your chosen browser when using Launchpad... the content is based on IE, and so IE likes to always use itself, no matter if yuo don't actually want to use it or not...

I hate ANYTHING browser specific. Standards are there for a reason... ever notice that many websites display differently in IE than in others, and that some stuff works ONLY in IE? It's because IE decides to both render things as it likes to, and also make special little 'nifty' things... that aren't part of any standard, and as such only work in that browser.

aye i can't stand IE and their non-standard "standards." i wish they would just get with the program set by the W3C... the consortium is there for a reason, but microsoft just wants to go out there and spread their own things as "standards."

i've used Opera since 1998 and haven't gone back. It is, by far, the best browser available, imho. i've enjoyed quick loading pages, tabbed browsing, custom search engines, improved cookie management, etc. for the past seven plus years.... and it's all standards compliant. it's just too bad web designers choose to go with IE based coding rather than something that conforms to standards.

sooooooooo.... any possibility of the eq2map team using a different method to push data, other than using something IE-based? perhaps an option to turn it off? i've been trying to figure out how to disable the startup page on the launcher from loading.

I use Firefox browser, and have installed an extension called "Firefox View" which puts in the context menu a link to open link in Firefox.

I dunno if Opera has an add-on that duplicates this function.

this seems to be an add-on for the IE context menu... doesn't seem like it'd be hard to replicate for Opera... just change what browser loads instead... i'll look into modifying IE context menus and see if i can get something rigged up for Opera.

edit: found someone who already did it for several browsers.. http://www.unixdaemon.net/ie_plugins.html
