Trying to download TyeJae Steel's UI and have made countless un-successful attempts in doing so, here's what I’ve done thus far:
1.) Created folder inside of UI folder in EQ2 main directory (named it: custom)
2.) Extracted the folder "TyeJae" in compressed zip folder to inside of the "custom" folder that is inside of the UI folder..
3.) Created Text Doc named Eq2.ini
4.) Typed this inside of it:
cl_ui_skinname custom
cl_ui_subdir UI/
(Also tried reversing it to have cl_ui_subdir UI/ on top of cl_ui_skinname custom)
5.) I tried it like that with the folder "TyeJae" inside of the folder "custom", along with the Eq2.ini text document saved in the Eq2 main directory.
(Launched EQ2 and it failed to load UI)
6.) Then i read that there should not be a folder inside of a folder such as putting the folder "TyeJae" into the folder "custom"...I then copied all of "TyeJae" contents into the folder "custom". So that now when i open the UI folder, then open the file "custom" it shows all of the files that were once in the file "TyeJae"
7.) I launched EQ2 again and it still did not work...
PLEASE HELP ME!
What am I doing wrong...
Thanks
PS: Please explain in easy to understand terms, not a computer genius hehe.
is your computer set to show all file extensions for all files? if not set it so that it is and check to make sure your eq2.ini file isnt really eq2.ini.txt
I'm a real noob around here & hopefully someone in the know can back this up.
Make sure that when you open your custom folder, that you see a lot of xml files & one images folder. It sounds like when you open your custom folder you you see the Tye Jae file folder.
edit : *slaps self for not reading 100% thru the first time*

umm, when i open my EQ2 main directory it shows it as Eq2.ini
How do you set you computer to show all file extensions for all files?
Ok, i'm sure the file is saved as Eq2.ini not Eq2.ini.txt
i was exploring the custom folder that contains all the XML documents and the images folder and found a text document at the bottom of the custom folder below all of the xml docs. and found a text document named "ui"...
I opened it and found this text inside, it may have somthing to do with the ui not loading...the text inside the text document "ui" is as follows:
rename the folder TyeJae to custom...
putting the FOLDER TyeJae INTO custom does not work
Here's how it WAS when opening folders
Eq2 main directory> UI> Custom> TyeJae> (Inside of the folder TyeJae it showed all of the XML docs and the one images folder.)
Tried it that way, failed to load
Then I tried it this way:
I copied everything that was inside of the TyeJae folder (xml docs and images folder) I backed out of the TyeJae folder and copied all of the documents into the "custom" folder...so now here's what it looked like:
Eq2 main directory> UI> Custom>
(Inside of the "custom" folder it showed all of the XML docs and the one images folder.)(Also the folder TyeJae still existed with in the "custom" folder with all of the xml docs and images folder still inside of it, but now with all of the xml docs and images folder in the "custom" folder as well)
Tried it that way, failed to load
Then i tried deleting the file TyeJae completley, so the xml docs and images folder only exists in the "custom" folder. Here's what it looked like:
Eq2 main directory> UI> custom
(inside of the costum folder there is the image folder and all of the xml docs, with NO TyeJae folder)
Ok, I've been trying to figure out how to download the TyeJae Steel Interface for about a week. Everyone is telling me mixed things and none of them seem to be working...I do not know much about computers and the whole lingo!
Please, someone tell me in ENGLISH...EXACTLY step for step not leaving any of the smallest details out..
Tell me as if you were telling a 6 year old how to install it please
HELP ME!
Thanks..
(BTW, I have already deleted all interface files I have previously tried to install)
Hi, ok download the ui you want put in ui folder right next to the default one and make sure theres not a folder within a folder, when you first open you want to see files not another folder, some people put a eq2.ini file in there work ,for exsample if ui is called joesui ini ,file will show"cl_ui_skinname joesui
cl_ui_subdir UI/ " if there is no ini in ui u loaded , Go back to your Everquest II directory and create a new text file and put the following code inside of it:
Code:
cl_ui_skinname joesui cl_ui_subdir UI/
# Save the file as eq2.ini (make sure you dont save it as eq2.txt or eq2.ini.txt)
# Load up Everquest II and your new interface should be working.and put that ini file in main eq2 directory so path everquest2 folder open folder drop ini in that and rememember skin name here is exsample.hope this helps
Viewing Extentions
ok, for starters, open up my computer, click the tools menu, then folder options.
A window will pop up, click the view tab. at the bottom of the advanced settings box (when its scrolled all the way up), you'll see a checkbox labeled "Hide extentions for known file types" make sure it is UNCHECKED.
Creating Eq2.ini
now, navigate to C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II . right click somewhere in the window, mouseover "new", then click "Text Document"
You should now be able to type in a name for the text document.
Type in eq2.ini and hit enter
This box:
should pop up. If it doesnt, you messed up the first part (veiwing extentions) click "yes".
Now text file icon should change and look like this:
now open eq2.ini, and paste this in it:
Quote:
cl_ui_skinname myui
cl_ui_subdir UI/
close the file, and pick "yes" to save it.
Making a mod folder Almost done, navigate to C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II\UI , and like above, right click somewhere, mouseover "new", and click "folder". name the folder "myui" (or whatever you put after cl_ui_skinname in the .ini file)
Open up your my ui folder, (your path should now be C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II\UI\myui )
---
Now download your shiney new mod. The part alot of people mess up, is figuring what exactly to put in the myui folder. So i'll try and explain.
when you unzip the file a folder will be created, YOU NEED TO OPEN THE FOLDER. then select everything IN that folder (usually .xml files, or an "image" folder) copy everything in the folder and paste it into your C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest II\UI\myui folder.
dled this UI mod. Having troubles with color, all interface peices(i.e. xp bar, hot bar etc.) are all either bright green or yellow. I'm not a noob to custom UI interfaces, was currently running journal mod, xp mod and map mod fine. Have I missed anything? Please help, I'm running out of debugging ideas.
Thanx for the guide, it is superb!
Just one problem I have come across, which is nothing to do with the UI itself, but I have been using Evercraft, and the previous EQ2.ini file have a reference to the macro icons in it. Can I just append the new ini file with this line? If not I can easilly swap between the ini files, but that means loosing the new UI when I wanna craft. :-(
