Can't find my EQ2 button

As I recall, that is controlled by the minimize / maximize state of the XP window, which is located in the upper left corner. Try right-clicking on the XP window and changing the minimize / maximize state. One state puts the control box in the usual location. The other puts it up in the area of the XP window.
