Default Updater not connecting

When I launch the map updater I get this message:

Checking Database
Failed to download Database
Error downloading File:
DATABASE
The operation has timed out
Retry
Failed to download Database
Error downloading File:
DATABASE
The operation has timed out
No Updated Files
No New Files
Update Done

I tried going to eq2interface.com through Internet Explorer to check out the forums about this but IE wouldn't connect to the website (connects to other sites though). AOL, which I also use, would connect which is how I'm writing this.
As the updater uses IE to download files, I'm a bit puzzled as to what the heck is the problem.
Any ideas?

Sounds like your firewall is blocking it. Try adding the url for eq2interface to IE's "white list" and see if that helps, or to your firewall's white list.

My firewall was already configured to accept the updater and was working fine up until a few days ago.

I don't know anything about a 'white list' on IE though. How do I check that?

I was looking at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...a&mg_id=20316b

and it says this:

Website certificates are designed to both encrypt the traffic between your browser and a website as well as make sure that you're communicating with the website you intended. Included in that website certificate is a number of different pieces of information such as the web address, or URL, expiration date, and certifying authority who verified this website was actually who they said they were. If any of these pieces of information are out of synch with the site you are attempting to contact, it may be due to a malicious individual attempting to fool you into revealing your personal information to them. For example, if I access https://woodgrovebank.com and everything works fine, I can be certain that I was communicating with the valid owner of that URL. However, if that certificate is stolen or is no longer valid, that URL and website combination cannot be guaranteed to be secure. As a result, Internet Explorer will automatically block you from accessing the site. If you have seen this on a site you know to be valid, please contact the site administrator to update their website certificates as soon as possible.
Is this possible in this case?

I believe the updater uses http:// and not https:// (why would it need to be secure) and so it doesn't need a certificate.

Try temporarily disabling your firewall and see if it can connect then... if it can, then you know thats your problem.

As for IE whitelisting: Open intercrap explorer and go to internet options, then the security tab. Click over to 'trusted sites' and click the "Sites" button then add eq2interface.com (making sure to uncheck "require verification (https for all sites in this zone").

I did as you suggested but, sadly, it didn't work. I'm at a loss as to what the reason for this is . I even went as far as reinstalling IE.

I really appreciate the input though
