Error openning with UI Builder

everytime i try to open any eq2ui.xml file since LU26 i keep getting this error
"This file could not be opened, check ui.log for more information"

upon checking the ui.log i discovered its not there! ive double/triple-checked to make sure that all files are shown and could not possibly be hidden. but low-and-behold the file is not being created.

ive checked my edit folder (a copy of default that i make changed to), my play folder (the one i actually use in eq), and even the default folder itself... but to no ends.

i can still open each file seperately, but not the eq2ui.xml. any help will be more than appreciated!

sorry for being such a n00b... i ended up deleting the default folder and redownloading everything and it works perfectly again... dont ask why i didnt think of this before
