Creation

I recently purchased a copy of Photoshop CS. I want to start making my own grafx and create a complete UI. Im getting pretty good at shapes and glass looking stuff, however metal seems to be imposible for me to re-create. I have tried various tutorials on the net but it just doesnt look like metal. Any tips or walk through would be appreciated.
