Can't get UI working!
I've tried about 3 or 4 different UIs, followed the directions word by word by word. UI ends up not working. I've been working on this for about 3 hours, no joy.. Can anyone give me an ultra super detailed walkthrough on how to set up UI please? I've read the read mes and followed the directions on the sticky also.. I'm sick of default UI, so a awesome looking UI would really be awesome, any help would be greatly appriciated!
[EDIT] I have EQ2 custom map program, that works.

If you have a working EQ2Map install you need to put your custom interface elements inside the EQ2Map custom UI folder ( Everquest II/UI/EQ2Map/*files ).
*This is because EQ2Map is itself a custom interface so everything needs to go in the same folder for it to show up.
If you continue to have trouble list step by step what you are doing to install the mods. Its much easier for some one to tell you what your doing wrong then to write a novel on what you *might* be doing wrong.

Stil nothing.. I think the problem may be the eq2.ini file.. I created a file and it looks like this-
cl_ui_skinname TyeJae_Steel v1289
cl_ui_subdir UI/
.. TyeJae_Steel is the name of the UI folder in the EQ2 Maps folder, but do I put anything next to "cl_ui_subdir UI/" ?

First thing I see is you can't have a space in your custom UI folder name, EQ2 doesnt like spaces. TyeJae_Steel v1289 would not be a valid name for the folder. rename the folder to bob or something and update your eq2.ini accordingly.
- Or (dont do both) -
Dont place that folder (TyeJae_Steel v1289) inside your EQ2Maps folder. copy the *files* inside your "TyeJae_Steel v1289" folder into the Eq2maps folder.

just to clarify, if you copy the files into the eq2map folder then make sure your custom ui is set to the eq2map directory. you can change what ui directory its set to by selecting the directory you want in the options window of the updater (it will update your eq2.ini file for you)

Still nothing, changed file name to 'bob', and when I run EQ2, I still get default UI.. Any other ideas?

Hmmm are you running a EQ2 in a language other then English? If so you will have a folder in your Everquest II folder for that language ( faq info). You need to use the UI folder in there. EQ2Map automaticly detects this and installs in the correct path so this could explain why EQ2Map continues to work for you.

use the eq2map folder as your custom ui folder, and dont do any editing of eq2.ini even if the instuctions tell you to, and you should get it to work.

some things to try
some things I thought of that might help you :
sometimes switching the order of the 2 lines in the ini file works - try that.
also make sure the folder you create matches the name in the ini exactly, case matters.
also, a pic of your file structure and your open folder might help us help you better - its much easier to figure out whats going on when we can see it.
that being said, if you have files in the wrong places and cant figure it out, it might be a good idea to uninstall all of your mods and redo it from scratch - I know I've had things so fouled up that there was no way to unravel what I'd done.

After rereading your post, I thought to myself maybe he put the ui's directory into eq2maps directory? Is this the case? If so thas wrong. You don't want to but the ui's directory into the eq2maps directory, you want to put the contents of the ui's directory into the eq2maps directory.
Try Doing this to keep it in step and simple.
- uncompress the ui into eq2\UI\
- rename it to a one word name if needed
- Open up that directory.
- Make sure there is an eq2ui.xml file in the new ui's directory. The path should look somthing like this c:\program files\sony\everquest ii\ui\<mod_name>\eq2ui.xml. If not, Stop and post what u see there.
- High-light and Copy every thing in that directory (not the directory)
- Go to the directory where eq2maps is working and paste into that directory, DO NOT DRAG AND DROP.
- Run EQ and see if that worked.
- If it did great! if not keep reading
- ingame type in /loadui
- you should see Default, the name of the mod you are wanting to use and other if u have them there. Order will verry.
- Click on the mod you are wanting to use and press ok. NOTE: this will reset your e2ui_settings.
- If it worked, fun the eq2maps updater let it install eq2maps into that ui for you.
Try that and let us know

Did you finish reading the tutorial? Had the same problem until I read the rest of the Q&A. Make sure you Open my computer\ click tools, view and uncheck the hide extensions for known file types option in the folder options. You know that's the problem if after you create an .ini file it doesn't have the cog icon over the text file. Did that and now the ui is working perfectly.

Followed those directions again, I still have EQ2map but my default UI reset, and when I type /loadui, all I see is EQ2 default UI, I unchecked hide extensions and I have my eq2.ini file set up perfectly (so I think).. Tried another UI and it came with the eq2.ini file all set up.

Some weird things I'm picking up on from reading all this.
Your EQ2Map install still works even when you've changed the eq2.ini. If you change your eq2.ini your EQ2Map should not work.
Nothing is showing up for you under the /loadui . This could be 2 things. 1) you dont have a eq2ui_skininfo.xml file in your custom UI folder so then it wont show up under /loadui. 2) or you have multiple installs of EQ2 and your chooseing the inactive one to put your interface files in and EQ2Map is picking the correct one.
Basicly this tells us EQ2 cant find your UI files and its not using the eq2.ini you made.
Do a search for the file in windows ( Start >> Search >> All files and folders) and enter the name eq2ui_mainhud_map.xml . Post the location of the files it finds here. This should tell us your true location of where Everquest II is installed and where the active custom UI folder is.

C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest2\UI\bob
C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest2\UI\Default
C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest2\UI\PERDV8
Only have 1 install of EQ2 on machine.

Delete everything in C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest2\UI eq2 will download a new default folder...
Delete eq2.ini from C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest2
Then follow the install instructions from the UI mod that you are trying to use if it is PERDV8
Place the PERDV8 folder in C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest2\UI and place the eq2.ini into C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest2
Then log in and try it (forget about the char settings file for now)
Then come back here and tell us how you got on and i am sure either me or sombody else will tell you how to install EQ2 map to that UI folder (and get the UI set up with the settings file also)

Hope This Helps
I just have a feeling its something in the way you are installing the actual UI - so I attached a screenshot of my file structure so you can see how a working one looks - I have eq2map installed as part of my custom set as well as some Fetish pieces and other custom stuff - all in a folder called "Tester1"
so my ini looks like this :
cl_ui_skinname Tester1
cl_ui_subdir UI/

they should go to wherever they are set up to be in the mod, you should keep the same directory structure as the zip
