Default update error on 1.0.15

i just 'upgraded' the patcher to 1.0.15 and when trying to update i get this errormessage:

Quote:
Failed to download Database
Unknown downloading Error:
DATABASE
Error creating the Web Proxy specified in the 'system.net/defaultProxy' configuration section.
disabling the proxy in IE produces just the same error message as when its enabled, i could access sites perfectly with both settings in IE

things that might be interesting:
- OS: xp_64
- .net 1.1 and 2.0 (x64) are installed

is there something i missed?

the strange thing is: i dont even have a proxy set up normally nor do i need one. after getting this error i tried what happens, if i enter a proxy into IE (which does work since IE got connectivity).

the version i used before, dont really know which it was... always crashed with a .net error when it was trying to patch some read-only file, thats why i wanted to update

You can try to reinstall .NET 2.0 and restart the computer.
I don't know if it helps, but somthing is wrong with the settings.

i came across this thread and having a similar issue with the exact same error message.

i took a look at the windows\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727\config\web.config containing:

<system.net>
<defaultProxy>
<proxy usesystemdefault="true" />
</defaultProxy>
</system.net>

so its set to use IE's proxy settings which are disabled (no proxy beeing used)

from the documentation of the .net i tried to change the above config part to <defaultProxy enabled="false"> but didnt help either

i did the exact same file changes to the Framework64\v.2.0.50727.... config file as well

i will now try to manually specify a proxy in those .net settings which does exist to see if that helps...
tested, didnt change a thing. i wonder if you have to reboot after changing .net's settings?
