Default Journal Mod - is this possible?

I havent worked with the UI builder or xml yet so I thought I would inquire from those more adept in this area...

For a while now I have wished for a note taking system incorporated into the journal but alas SOE hasnt given us one. So the next thing I can think of from seeing various mods is -

Wtihin the quest journal to include a a memo field window and a button called "Notes".

Functionality -
"notes" button would check the location machine /UIName/Notes/[QuestName].txt - if such a file exists, open it with textpad for editing, if no file exist, create a text file called [QuestName].txt and then open it for editing.

The memo field would display the contents of the associated text file.

Can this be done? (if so, who is willing to do it?

There are several areas in the UI where you can take notes, e.g. your bio page or the friends/ignore list. Apart from those, you cannot save arbitrary text to disk. You can use the web browser however to post your notes online (or locally, if you run a web server).

If it does not work, you likely installed it incorrectly. Always try a clean install before reporting bugs.

Ok, but I have seen several mods that can display text in a window that is located in a separate text file on the local machine, so I know that part can be done so are you telling me that you cant program a button that will create the text files and launch notepad to allow them to be edited outside of the EQ2 UI?

No it can not be done. Not even a button to launch notepad, not even a button to write text to file.

No, you can't edit or save text files from within the game, unless (as was noted above) you're working through the in-game Web browser. You *can*, of course, edit text files, such as those displayed within the Info Center, with another program outside the game while you're playing, but if you do so, any changes you make won't show up in the game until you've exited and reloaded, anyway, so you might as well just wait and make the changes when you're not playing.
