a radar :D
was talkint o one of my friends the other day while playin eq2 and we were lookin for gustfeather so he said he wishs he had like a radar that is on the player screen and shows the name of whatever mob where ever it is and your location also, would that be possible? of course you'd have to be able to toggle it on or off with a hot key or somethin
and second anyway you can get your group members to show up on your map as a dot or something? maybe a smaller arrow?
that'd be awesome, thanks in advance
btw, we got gustfeather to kicked his sorry butt :P

No, no, and no. Tracking and the Waypoint window is all you're gonna get without an external program, which can be downloaded at www.BAN_ME.com

What he's trying to say if Sony wanted us to have that feature they would have given us a tool like that. There is no program that can do that, at this time, and if someone does make something that did that, it would surely get you banned for using it.

I've seen too many evil things from EQ1, so lets just hope your right (about there not being one)
And cheers to EQ2 devs in keeping that stuff out.

I will not mention the name of the program for EQ1. I never used it, but was well aware of it. It not only did the pseudo Radar Map, but I believe that people that wrote it even were able to detect what Loot the mobs had on them If I remember what I read correctly. Needless to say if Sony caught you using that program they would ban your account. I applaud SoE for keeping that kind of program off EQ2. It's a tough job tracking down hacks and cracks like that. And it's a never ending job. Kind of like Copy Protecting a Program, or CD. They will always find a way around the protection given enough time.

at one time yes, but once eq figured out that they werent going to win against them they got smart and just stopped sending that info to clients until they looted the mob, they did the same thing with exp before eq used to get the exact # experience and then convert it to % for the exp bar so that program would tell you how much exp you got from killing something, eq stopped sending the exact # and instead started sending the percentage.

Being one who used to tinker with Macroquest (the SINFUL PROGRAM NO ONE LIKES), I can honestly say that most of the features that weren't obviously detectable were pretty useless except for the map. Pre-Mid Velious, you were able to see the items on a mob, but since the items are now generated on death, the only thing you can tell now is location and level. That's it. It's essentially a graphical Tracking that doesn't require any special skill to use.
Then there was the ability to instantly change your character's location by screwing with the packet stream, as well as change some characteristics (run speed, etc), but anything that actually alters the stream is VERY easily trackable. It's the sniffers that are more or less impossible to track. The only way you could feasibly track something passive like that is by sending some sort of packet that forces it to identify itself somehow by finding some sort of exploitation in the code.
