Default Coppying the default UI

Would it make a difference if I copied the default UI then added the XML files I wanted to make changes to into that folder? And if I could do that to make a mix and match would I need something special in the EQ folder to make it work? I seem to be having all kinds of issues with UI's since I had to stop using thorui? If anyone could tell me if this is possible would be most appreciative!

Cleanin Guard GUK 70

And I play on a 32" so was looking for a UI for that size at a 1240X1080 rez!

Thx guys!

The only thing you need from the default directory is eq2ui.xml and that file is mandatory to be in the customUI directory. That file is the root document. If the game can't find child xml files (the other xml files) in the current directory it will then get them from the default directory. So all that you ned in your customUI directory is the eq2ui.xml file and any other file that you modify or include.

Even that file doesn't have to be in the custom UI directory if it hasn't been altered. (There's no copy of it in my own custom UI directory.)

You need only have files that have actually been altered in your custom directory. The game will look first in that directory for every file it needs, and then in the default directory. *NOTHING* needs to be (or should be) copied directly from the default UI directory to the custom UI directory. If you copy files from the default directory, you're just setting yourself up for unnecessary problems when those files are updated later.

Hmm interesting, It didn't use to be that way I don't think. Maybe it just has to be there to show up on the loadui list. In order to work on a UI in the UIBuilder it has to be there as it loads the eq2ui.xml file (or has that changed too?).

You need eq2ui.xml to use the UIBuilder.

You need eq2ui_skininfo.xml for it to show in the /loadui menu.

Yes, it would. If you DO copy the files, then they'll stay the same after SOE patches them, even though you don't want them to. So don't.

Ah, well, as I never use either of those, that would explain why I've never seen a need for those files in my custom UI directory.
