Default File System Error after Firefox switch

Hi, I have ben getting this file system error.

I thought it might be a firewall problem or some such, but cannot find a problem.

It only started happening when I installed Firefox if thats any help. I thought it might be something to do with the switch from IE to firefox. I have re-installed but with no joy.

Any ideas?

Here's the message

There's no way installing Firefox could cause that - do you have any sort of 3rd party software firewall?

No 3rd party tools.

I can pretty much guarantee the chain of events.

I downloaded Firefox, installed it, followed the Mozilla instructions to make Firefox the preferred browser, and then noticed EQ2Map had stopped working.

I installed no other software/hardware, nor did I make any more changes.

Confusing huh.

Oh, and if it helps..

I do use the XP Firewall. I now have it disabled (in case that was the problem) and still no joy.

I use Mcafee as my virus protection. Have trid it with that disabled also.

Everything else that connects works fine (EQ2, CS, Firefox, Thunderbird, etc etc).

are you running Mcafee Security center? if so then it comes with a firewall as well, but it usually takes the place of Windows XP security center firewall.

also, if you havent already done so, try redownloading the files for EQMAP.

aside from that, the only think i can think of is that something else got installed alongside of firefox. i have used firefox for a long time and never had this problem. give them ideas a try if it dosnt work, let us know, i am sure someone will figure out a way.

SOLVED IT!

Yay, finally solved this problem.

When you install Firefox, one of the suggestikons is to go through and prevent IE from working again, this include putting in bogus proxy details on IE.

It appears EQ2 Maps takes the proxy settings from IE, hence it is not able to connect.

I set the proxy back to normal in IE and everything is hunky dory again!

Might be worth putting a note at the top that EQ2Maps takes the proxy settings from IE though, in case it helps anyone else.

YAY!
