either re-download the updater and re-install or re-run the .jnlp file you originally downloaded.....it will fix your issues.

Hrm
I've tried running the jnlp file again, to no avail. I'm running Windows 7 64bit. Is there a known issue with this? Also have Java update 14. Thanks.

Work Around Java update issue.
If you go to http://updater.pala.de there is a button to launch the updater that works. It's not a fix but there haven't been any updates since June 6, 2009. I imagine there will be after the 16th, and you should be able to get it that way.

It's the same thing after every Java update, the Java cache gets cleared and your old shortcuts stop working. Fix them as described in the FAQ.

I'll try this when I get home from work. If I remember...... I'll end up pulling up in my driveway and wonder what it was I was going to do

Works for me using Java 6u14 and Windows 7 RC *shrug*
If you enable the java console it very likely will log error messages there. If you don't know how to enable java console, use an already released OS :P
Make sure you use the website to install only, as 6u14 might consider the downloaded jnlp file insecure, though this would invoke a error message...

Ah, and make sure it doesn't hide behind any other windows you have open. It gets me fooled that way once in while as it might not always take focus.
As popup messages do not create an icon in the task bar, it looks like it did not start when it starts up with the "select your eq2 directory" thingy... I might change the starting order for that once i get back from my business trip...

The download only has an .url now, sir. /salute
The point about it not taking focus is a good one, had that once or twice. Also first startup after install can take a really long while for some reason.

If you have a small upload bandwidth it just takes some time to transfer all your personal data...
No idea really, it is planned Java dynamically downloads the packages it needs after invoking a webstart application. I don't know if they have implemented that already...

Hi Kaldran,
I tried reinstalling the updater, but install fails with an exception since Java says the file signature can't be verified:
JNLPSigningException[Signatur der Startdatei konnte nicht verifiziert werden. Die signierte Version stimmt nicht mit der heruntergeladenen Version überein.]
at com.sun.javaws.jnl.LaunchDesc.checkSigning(Unknown Source)

at com.sun.javaws.Launcher.launch(Unknown Source)
at com.sun.javaws.Main.launchApp(Unknown Source)
at com.sun.javaws.Main.continueInSecureThread(Unknown Source)
at com.sun.javaws.Main$1.run(Unknown Source)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)
Never had any problems with the updater until lately Can you help with this? Running Win XP SP3, Java 6 Update 14. Tried in FF 3 and IE 7.
Thanks!

fixed it myself
that FAQ link doesn't do a damn thing. open up the Java program, should be in Control Panel. click the 'settings' button under temporary internet files....mine was off, that's why it wouldn't work. re-enable cookies and you're good to go!!!!!

I take great pride in my FAQ, sir, it is a piece of art and rarely leaves a question unanswered. Lol.
Seriously, just read the "damn thing" instead of mouthing off here. To quote from the updater installation instructions:
