Default Four questions, any of which may belong to other forums, help?

First let me say that I have installed several of the interface mods to my system, and they mostly work well. I have even modded the xml on a few - such as turning the moddified 8 slot accross bag into a seven slot across bag. I felt proud when I got that to work.

Last night I spent at least 6 hours trying to get 3 things to work on my system. Here's what I need help with.

First: I have downloaded a couple of inventory mods that more or less help eliminate the "paper doll". The two I tried were:
http://www.eq2interface.com/download...fo.php?id=3315
http://www.eq2interface.com/download...fo.php?id=3322

I installed both into the same customui folder I have already succefully installed other mods like the aforementioned bag mod. Both files were named:
eq2ui_inventory_inventory.xml

Problem is, when I went into the game, the old traditional inventory UI is there unmodded and unchanged.

Why?

Second: I love using the EQ2 map.
http://maps.eq2interface.com/
I would furthermore love to be able to resize it, what changes would I make to the xml to permit to resize the window?

Third, also relating to the above EQ2 map mod:
How do I turn on/disbale the Fog of War effect? Before I installed the EQ2 Map there was a checkbox I believe - now there is not.

Fourth, and most difficult:
I installed the Maintained Spells mod at:
http://www.eq2interface.com/download...fo.php?id=3997
Here is a picture of how it looks:
http://www.eq2interface.com/download...ew.php?id=3811

It installed flawlessly and work flawlessly. However, I want to change it. I want the description text, that you can see on the left of the icons, to still be to the left of the icons, but I want the text to be right-aligned, i.e., snugged up tight to the left side of the icons. I tried modifying the PackLocation, PackSize, TextAlignment, etc, but nothing I did made things any better.

Example snippet of XML from that mod:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<Page DynamicData="/GameData.Spells.MaintainedWindow" DynamicDataFilter="0001" eq2usescomwndcontrols="true" LocalTooltip="Maintained Spells" Location="8,44" MaximumSize="9999,9999" MinimumSize="32,35" Name="Maintained" OnHoverOut="Volume.CellSize=CellTemplate.Size" PackLocation="left,center" PackLocationProp="0008/0001,-342/0001" RStyleDefault="/rectlist.chat_bubble_frame" ScrollExtent="154,333" Size="154,333" Tooltip="Maintained Spells" UserMovable="true" UserResizable="true" Visible="false">

</Page>

So what do I need to modify to make the text right aligned? I have tried a lot, but nothing has worked, and I feel like I am stumbling around in the dark.

What do I need to do to alter this interface mod to right align the text?

Thanks.

By the way, if I need to repost any of the four questions above in other forums, please direct me - those four questions are driving me balmy and I seek resolution as soon as possible to retain my sanity.

My goal would hopefully be not only getting my problems solved (which would be enough) but also learning along the way to be able become a better EQ2 UI modder.

Thanks.

Also, FYI, I tried messing with the UI Builder. It didn't help. At all.

Maybe a fifth question is, the UI Builder want me to load up a file called eq2ui.xml, but this file does not exist under the /customui subdirectory where I have installed all my mods, but only under the /Default subdirectory.

When I open it from the default directory, I can access the default UIs but not my mods.

When I try to open the individual mods such as:
eq2ui_inventory_bag.xml
eq2ui_mainhud_maintained.xml
eq2ui_inventory_inventory.xml

They open in the UI Builder, but all I se as I click on things in the hierarchy on the left pane is square red outlines on a black background in the view pane on the right. No graphics at all.

How does that help? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

1. You said you have eq2map installed are you putting the inventory mods in the same custom folder as eq2map? You need to put them in C:\program files\sony\everquest ii\ui\eq2map. If that is what you are doing and still have trouble post the contents of your ui.log located in your everquest ii folder.

2. no eq2map nor the map window can be resized while keeping the poi's and your "I'm here" dot.

3. You want to change the tool tips that pop-up when you mouse over? I'm not 100% sure but I dont think you can.

OK, here's an update.

*First*, I got the inventory mod download to work by copying everything from the Default UI folder *except* my modded files and pasting it in.

In other words, I have around seven modded UI xml files. I copied every file, folder, and subfolder, xml or otherwise, from the Default UI dir to the customui UI dir EXCEPT for any file that would overwrite something already in my custom UI dir (the modded XMLs)

That made the inventory mod work, whereas before it was only showing the normal default one even with the eq2ui_inventory_inventory.xml file in place - is that normal to have to copy all the default unmodded stuff?

*Second*, I can't resize the eq2 Map - a pity, but we accept what we cannot change, next.

*Third*, I still do not know how to turn off the "Fog of War" on the Map. Like I said, before installing the map mod I *think* there was a check box for it, now there is not. How can I modify the eq2 Map Mod to disable the Fog of War?
<FYI - Fog of War = the places on the Map that are covered by black until you go there, which reveal that area>

*Fourth*, copying all those dfault files must have fixed the text alignment issue too, becuase a simple addition of TextAlignment="Right" to each text line in the maintained spells window did exactly what I needed. So that's done.

Finally, I have a *new* question:
There are many mods such as the one at:
http://www.eq2interface.com/downloa...nfo.php?id=3997
Here is a picture of how it looks:
http://www.eq2interface.com/downloa...iew.php?id=3811

...that list the duration remaining next to the spell, which by default in EQ2 is only visbile on the tooltip.

What I want to have is the Spell *Effects* windows (the *other* spell icon window) *also* have spell durations next to each icon.

Both the icons in the Maintained Spell window and the Spell Effects window display remaining durations in the mouse tooltip when hover overed.
However, as fr as I can see, only the Maintained Spell Icons have associated DynamicData in the gamedata xml, the Spell Effects do not seem to have any DynamicData associated with them.

How can I get the duration info which is being displayed on the tooltips on the Spell Effect icons to display as conastant text beside the icon? Where to I get or reference the Spell Effect Duration from?

Thanks

1. that’s not the best way to do it because your going to have some major troubles when LU16 rolls out and changes 49 default interface files. if you would post your ui.log when using it the normal way we could maybe see why the inventory windows weren’t loading.

2. its just the way soe designed the map window. if you want a smaller map window you can try this plug-in though, it splits the map into 4 sections.
http://www.eq2interface.com/download...fo.php?id=3584

3. the black fog of war can not be disabled as its controlled server side. SOE does this to promote exploration of the zone. Now zones like cities and such have a translucent fog of war and a checkbox should show up for that when you’re in those zones.

5. I'm not sure hopefully some one else can help you with that.

OK, then, let's focus on #1 for now.

I have restored the customUI folder to just the modded xml's...

...and now it works. I cannot explain it. At all. But good. As along as it *stays* working...

So, that just leaves the matter of modding the spell effects window. Who are some kind and giving modders who I perhaps whould ask directly?

Adding timers to the spell effect icons can't beed done atm, the game does not suply the data needed to do that. Yes it is shown in the tool tip but that is hardcoded. The only reason we can do this to the maintained effects icon is that data is provided to us by SOE.

For problem #1 the Inventory thing:

What you were "missing" in your custom folder was the addition of the following line added to the CUSTOM EQ2UI.Mainhud.xml file the is in YOUR custom directory:

<include>eq2ui_mainhud_inventory.xml</include>

This file must be added BEFORE the </page> line!

Without this line added to YOUR CUSTOM Mainhud file, the game will assume NO custom window is present and use the DEFAULT window instead.

By adding this line to the file, the game will LOOK for the custom modded file you are desiring.

You must do this any time you add a NEW custom modded window to YOUR custom directory if the line calling for it IS NOT present in the Custom EQ2UI.Mainhud.xml file.
