Default Compilation UI [Working]

Okay so, I left Wow after 5 years because it has become a "Hand Out" game. The fun had completely gone missing.

Then I found EQ2.. Truth be told.. I had tried EQ2 on 3 separate occasions, and didn't like it at all. It felt clunky, and weird. However, on this most recent endeavor into the game.. I must say I have fallen in love. In fact.. I am having a hard time figuring out how on gods green earth I let it slip through the cracks for so long. Don't get me wrong there are a ton of things "I" personally think need improvement. But all in all, I am having Waaaay more fun than I ever had play wow. The community is 100x better as well...

Anyways, to make a long story short, I have been working day and night to get the UI to feel a little less clunky, and so far this is what I have..

Out of Combat

In Combat

If I had to describe this UI, I would have to call it a "heavily" modified DrumsUI. However, there are a few questions I have, and a few things I would give anything for.

1. Somewhere along the way I completely lost my "Target Rings" I have toggled every single option I can find, I have tried scanning my install, I have tried downloading a modified target ring, and alas It's still AWOL. If anyone has a fix or an Idea for how to fix it, I would fully be willing to kiss them right on the mouth.

2. Chat sounds!! .. Why in the hell is this not in the game, I have trolled the forums day and night and from what I gather this is impossible with an addon due to how the game itself is designed. I can however use ACT to make sounds on triggers but running a third party program is fail, and the fact that there is sounds for personal tells but nothing else makes me wanna cry. Anyone that can figure something out, or suggest some sort of options other than ACT will be awarded with the same payment as listed above. :P

3. Sloppy windows. Okay .. bear with me .. Lets take for example the detrimental window.. I like where I have it, it works, but as I am slaughtering baddies in Common Lands, Suddenly I get jumped by an angry elephant, but as I am moving around and trying to target him with my mouse, all of the "Invisible" Backgrounds for all the windows on my screen seem to get in the way. Now.. I am aware that I can set these things to "Click Through" but then how do I cancel Buffs, or interact with any window that I have set to that?? .. This makes Gezus a SAD PANDA! .. and we don't like sad panda's!

4. Tab Targeting .. WTF is this all about! .. Smashing monsters in Walling Caves, and again I get jumped by an add. I end up spamming [Tab] 417 times because EQ2 has decided that rather than target the mob thats currently punching me in the face, I should be made aware that there are 25 other mobs, 7 harvesting nodes, and 4 shines. Please for the love of everything holy (Or unholy.. /highfive Sk's) .. Someone tell me there is a fix for this.. ? .. Out of everything that EQ2 does this 1 thing drives me %$*&#ing MENTAL! .. lol

5. In game Browser.. Everything about every browser I have tried (and thats ALL of them on this site) works perfectly. Except 1 thing... When I click my quest helper "Zan/EQWiki" button and I start browsing the nightmarish details to the epic Heritage quest I am trying to do (Most likely 7 levels to low).. I always find the Waypoints system a MAJOR help. However.. Zam and EQ2Wiki have a handy little button that lets you click to "copy" the waypoints.. but NOT in an in game browser. I know this seems trivial, but when your in the questing mood, manual cut and paste is LAME! :P .. I mean C'mon.. this is 2011 here! .. Anyways. I did some research and from what I understand, the problem is most likely the fact that these websites are using waaaaaaaay newer versions of Java than the in game browser is using (honestly I don't even know if the in game browser uses, or can use Java.) .. But I am pleading with you UI gurus... Can something like this be added or fixed in any way? ..

6. Last but not least (For now) .. "Full Screen Windowed" .. this drives me bonkers! .. I have to play in a window because I use 2 monitors, and there is soooo much stuff to be researching and reading about this awesome game but you can't just mouse into the other monitor and start clicking away at your browser.. I am assuming that this is something that can't be fixed by the UI community.. but if we all jump on board, perhaps we can get a fix... Plus.. who knows .. you guys rule at everything maybe there is a fix.. :P /Crossesfingers.

/EndRant.

Anyways.. I love you guys, I love this game, I apologize for my wall of text crit, and I thank anyone and everyone who had the patience to read it and perhaps shed some insight as to why I am crazy for drinking as much coffee as I do. :P

I also am going to try to figure out how to share this UI for anyone that is interested.

**Please remember zero credit goes to me, all I did was move it all around, and take the time to sift through it all.**

On that note, I bid you all good evening, and hope that your adventures fill your bags with Legendary loots of Tiers that don't even exist yet!! Happy slaughtering!

Gezus!

P.S SOE .. Fix stats! .. Don't become Wow! .. Please.. please.. please x2.

I found a problem! .. and I am to stupid to fix it :P

Okay .. in the area that I highlighted the backdrop of the Target frame is sitting on top of the buttons, and I really really like these unit frames! .. Alas I have no clue how to fix this issue, I have tried manually resizing the frame so that the target effects are sitting right on the edge of the frame. But it wont save, and is constantly reverting to the default size.

Can anyone help me fix this? ..

Here is the information stored in the eq2ui_mainhud_target.xml file

1. Definitely sounds like an in-game option or something that you missed. Can't be sure really. You could try backing up and deleting your eq2_recent.ini before going in to game to see your results.

2. EQ1 has custom in-game sound triggers. Unfortuantely EQ2 does not. There's just no way to parse chat with the UI, especially not "sub strings" of chat. With enough feedback, maybe this could get added one day...

3. A lot of windows that you can set Click-Through on, you can still interact with the window, you just have to either right click specifical elements or left click buttons. Some window seem to vary with this. Personally I play just fine with most windows and click-through successfully enabled. I play with the keyboard a good bit, just to note. If you learn to turn your screen with a combination of both your mouse and your keyboard, you'll only need to use certain parts of your screen. I personally am comfortable with panning the camera up and down with keys to avoid clicking windows, as well as using both left and right mouse clicks to move the camera or my whole character.

4. The biggest thing with tab targeting is being in combat, and also with creatures in an "encounter". If you are incombat with an encounter and you try to "tab" through them, you'll always stay in that encounter. Tabbing always picks up where it left off (unless you get taunted). The best way to tab to newly aggro'd creatures is to target the closed NPC (keybind Target Nearest NPC) and then if needed start tabbing through the targets. But like I said, if you're in combat with creatures in an encounter (more than 1 mob), it's just gonna cycle in that encounter. I don't use the Tab key specifically, I have my own hotkeys, but do what is comfortable with you. Maybe set Tab to Target Nearest NPC, and Shift+Tab to cycle through them.

5. Just how it is. They're probably using some sort of javascript in the Copy buttons and it just doesn't work in the in-game browser. Not much we can do. Can try asking on the forums and hope for feedback, but I doubt it'll ever get high on the list.

6. I played in windowed mode and just stretch the screen out. If you are bent on totally hiding the title bar at the top^, then you can mess with your eq2_recent.ini and messing with the location/size of the window. See specifically for example:
cl_screenwidth_windowed 1675
cl_screenheight_windowed 1022
cl_screenposx_windowed_restore_down 3
cl_screenposy_windowed_restore_down 24

And lastly, as for the target window constantly auto-resizing the effects down, you would have to create an OnSize property that constantly sets the effects to a static "x,y" width and height. I can't give a more forward suggestion at the moment as I don't have the time to look at the code and give a proper size estimate.

I'm glad you have come up with a UI setup/layout that works for you and makes your game experience a better one. I think how we interact with the game is one of the more important things in the grand scheme. Hopefully Sony will continue to invest time in the UI features in the future.

Hope all that helps. Cheers.

awesome man, thank you so much for the response.

I will continue to keep fiddling around and see what I can do.

As for the size of the target window thing..

I am at a loss as to what this even means :P .. lol.
