Exclamation REQUEST: Show QUEST MARKERS for quests in JOURNAL only!

Greets.

Currently EQ2MAP shows ALL possible quest starts, quest updates, quest end markers. Disabling any of these can also disable ones we need.

How about a simple cross-reference with our Quest Journal for quests in the CURRENT ZONE, and just display the markers for all quests we have in the current zone.

By ONLY showing quest markers for ones we need (ie ones in our quest journal), one look at our Map and we can see all the locations that need to be visited at a glance, and plan the rest of our day.

This idea can also be expanded to just show MOBS/Critters we just need for our quests (and hide the rest). Much more effective and efficient.

A [x] tickbox can enable and disable this feature for easy access to view all other quest markers if needed.

This would make EQ2Map a less cumbersome and more user-friendly mod. And after all these years, I think its time for this change to happen. (Pretty please with a cherry on top!)

Thanks.

SOE is already doing basically what you want with their provided POIs and ROIs for quests in your journal, they can do it a whole lot easier than we can. Unfortunately in how they did it they did not (to my knowledge) expose anything to us that would let us tag on and have custom POIs filtered by active quests, meaning if we could do it at all it would likely be a massive undertaking given how many POIs we have. SOE has not finished all the zones with their developer-specified POIs, but as they do add them the existing EQ2MAP POIs can be removed to de-clutter the map.

Believe me, what you're asking for is something we have wanted a long time. Rothgar told us it was coming, but in the end they went a different route and made the POIs developer-specified with no way for us to get in on the action. You can always send in some /feedback for them to open up a way of adding custom POIs that are filtered by quest, but I just don't see it coming any time soon given the way they've gone.

Maybe once they finish we can look at how many quest POIs we need to keep (ie those that aren't done by SOE) and if it's a small enough number something might be doable then, but with the thousands of POIs we have now I don't see us coming up with anything for them.

Ok since this will have to be all done MANUALLY for each of the 6500+ EQ2 quests, then I have a suggestion:

Make a secondary pulldown menu just for QUESTS. We can pulldown the quest name (as it appears in quest journal) and if data exists: All markers will be shown, along with NUMERIC icons that show us the STEPS that need to be taken in correct order for completion.

If data does NOT exist: Inform user with PoPup message: THERE IS NO DATA AVAILABLE FOR THIS QUEST. PLEASE HELP THE EQ2MAPS PROJECT BY SENDING IN YOUR QUEST DATA.

A clicky button [INSTRUCTIONS] can then forward user to instructions (similar to mapping instructions) to appropriate page that tells them to plug in QUEST DATA MARKERS using EQ2i Wiki and ZAM waypoints on the map.

These "markers" are not visible on main maps and are specifically QUEST_FLAGGED and are only visible via the QUESTS PULLDOWN MENU as/when needed.

Once user has plugged in all waypoints and icons and descriptions - they can click [SUBMIT QUEST INFO] to this site. Once this data is verified, this can then become part of the EQ2MAPs auto-updater.

Some info on the numeric icons:

I know this is a daunting task... but this has to be done. The maps are becoming a hap-hazard mess of clutter over the years. And its time to streamline this for user-friendliness and quick accessibility.

I know it took years to collect this data - and we still have many years and many many users (with the revival of EQ2x) to help clean up and make this project even better.

Many thanks.

would need
  • list of all quests
  • list of all zones relevant to each quest - unless you want a 6500+ entry dropdown (would have to be a listbox anyway, dropdown will be too long regardless)
  • some way to toggle individual POI on and off - I remember I found such a way when map2 was first introduced and while I don't recall the specifics now I remember it was quite convoluted and would increase the size of each POI file by a magnitude and potentially introduce lag on maps with many POI (I think each POI needed individual UIscript).

So in theory it may be possible in some way but I doubt the advantages would outweigh the disadvantages. also keep in mind it will not be possible to tie that system in with SOE's existing system so it will just be confusing to people since they cannot know which system to use.
