Default System Demanding??

I have used Profit before and I loved everything about it. I did one group in DFC with Profit and even with the settings down low, and it was pretty laggy. I dont know if it was the time or the zone or the UI that caused this. But I haven't experienced as much lag in similar places since I switched back to default UI.

That being said, I have a 2.5 year old system with 2 GB ram and a 7600gt card. Now I have searched the FAQ's and forums and I can't seem to find the answer that I am looking for.

Basically, I just want to know how much more of my system resources are going to be used while using this UI. I really want to get it again, but I dont plan on getting a new PC for another month or two, and I want to keep the performance up as much as possible.

If it helps any, my system was able to run some of the most demanding WoW UI's without a hitch. EQ2 is much different though

Thanks.

You can't compare this to WoW. The UI engine of EQ2 is just horrible performance wise.

The rule of thumb is that every additional window you have on screen reduces your performance, even if it's just empty. However, the biggest performance hit are then fonts, in particular if you use the smooth fonts option which is enabled by default. That's due to the way the EQ2 UI engine works, it is just incredibly wasteful in how it renders the UI, in particular fonts with shadows. I estimate that depending on your system speed, every chat window you have open which is filled with text costs you 10-20 fps.

Many releases ago I had packaged high-performance fonts with the UI that did not cause this performance hit but users did not like it.

Another important performance factor is windowed mode. Only moving the mouse cursor in windowed mode will probably cut your fps in half if not more. Don't use the mouse if you play in windowed mode.

So, to summarize: ProfitUI in the default setup costs more resources than the default UI, simply because it displays more things on the screen (even though it takes less space for that than the Default UI). To increase performance hide windows when you don't need them. Set your chat window to hide completely unless you mouse over. Same for other windows. You will see your performance go up considerably.

If it does not work, you likely installed it incorrectly. Always try a clean install before reporting bugs.

Some great info here! I have a couple of questions.

To disable font smoothing uncheck:
Options > User Interface > Game Windows > Smooth Fonts

Do more chat tabs affect performance worse than fewer chat tabs?

Are those high-performance fonts of yours available for download somewhere?

Thank you so much, in advance.

I'm gonna have to say that windowed mode is most likely dependant of your video card and your system. I hardly ever play in fullscreen. The difference in FPS is usually only 1 or 2 FPS, and that's when I don't have it fully stretched across the screen (this way the windows task bar doesn't cover anything if I use it)
