Default Profit exp display problem?

I downloaded the complete Profit UI a few days ago. I like it a lot for the most part, but notice that there seems to be a problem with the exp counter in the personal information window. I've noticed that the exp reading goes both up AND down sometimes. For example...at the end of one fight, it'll read 98.3, and after the fight is over, it'll drop back down to 98.0 percent. I've seen this occur several times.

Does anyone else encounter this problem, or perhaps know of a fix/solution? I realize it's minor, but it's a bit annoying when you get all excited about being close to level, then watching your exp drop. =)

Known problem with all UI's including the default UI. ProfitUI has two variants of XP windows each trying to cope with this differently. That's all listed with the download btw.

If it does not work, you likely installed it incorrectly. Always try a clean install before reporting bugs.

Once upon a time, the digital display of adventuring and tradeskilling experience (that which you seen in the default UI when you tooltip over the exp bar) wasn't rounded. In other words, if you had, for example, 75.8% experience, it would still display as 75%.

This fact was utilized by many exp bar modders to allow display of exp gain to tenths of a percent. (The "how" isn't terribly important right now.)

Unfortunately, though, several months ago, the digital display of adventuring and tradeskilling experience was fixed so that it rounded correctly, just as the digital display of guild experience had done all along. So, now, mods that haven't been adjusted since the change will frequently show exp incorrectly. For example, if your actual exp is 75.8%, those mods will incorrectly show it as 76.8%. That's the source of the erratic behavior you described.

There have been many, many threads here and elsewhere in which modders have complained about how Sony "broke" the exp display, but the fact is, they actually fixed it. The number *should* be rounded, since it's intended as (and is only used in the default UI as) a whole-number display of experience. The problem is that Sony only fixed it after many exp bar mods had been developed which relied upon the unrounded number being available.

Personally, I think Sony ought to make both the rounded and the unrounded numbers available; that way, both whole-number and tenth-of-percent displays could be used in exp bars. But they haven't done so yet.

Oddly, even though it's become quite obvious that the number isn't likely to be changed back, almost no exp bar mods have been updated to accomodate the change. I really don't understand that. *Shrug*

@Darryl / Milquetowst

I'm pretty sure most mods haven't been "updated" in the way you say because people still want that 10ths digit. I know I do. And I (and many others) can live with having to think "ok, 10ths is >/< 5, so xp is 1%less/right" so we can see that 10ths digit. I don't think theres any way to show the unrounded 1s digit anymore (I think the 1s digit included in the 1s/10ths data is also rounded?) so I don't think theres anyway to alter the data conditionally to show the right data.

Theres threads on it all over, its a rather well-known problem. And I too wish they would give us both bits of data (or rather, just make 1 bit of data thats rounded whole %, and one bit thats the entire unrounded bit as a float with a % sign).

The problem, as is evidenced by how often the question is repeated, is that while most modders understand what's going on, a great many other users of the exp bar mods *don't* understand it, and have no idea why the display is so flaky.

For what it's worth, in my own exp bar, I came up with what I think is a reasonable compromise. I have the secondary number displayed, but separately (and in a smaller font) rather than integrated with the primary number. That way, the main exp display is always accurate, but I can also see exactly how many tenths of a percent exp I gained from a particular fight or quest. At the very least, it works for me, and produces no confusion.

Unfortunately, there isn't. I played with every option I could think of shortly after the change was made, as did many others, and nothing worked.

That would be PERFECT.

It does unfortunately not matter which XP mod you choose. Unless the rounding issue has been ninja-fixed by SOE you will still see it.
