Default Problem: 15 Second Delay in Opening EQ2MAP Updater

For some reason, there is a 15 second pause between when I click on the EQ2MAP Updater icon and when the application actually loads.

I don't have similar problems with any other apps. Really annoying.

Anyone have any ideas?

You call that normal? I am working on a quite slow computer, and the delay between the call and the initialisation of the updater are minimal.
I see that you do not encounter this problems with other programs, but I still think that it might be your antivirus program. Try disabling it, and then run the updater (but don't forget to re-enable it afterwards). There have been some wrong positives concerning EQ2MAP, so it is possible but unlikely that this has something to do with it.
I assume you are not having any strange configuration, like running EQ2 over a LAN or a wireless network, trying to have a server update EQ2MAP for another computer in the network or stuff like that?

Greetings, Robert

i also get a delay but is more like 5 seconds though i have a pretty good computer. it dosent bother me much though i just start all my updaters at once and deal with the other ones while the map updater starts.

i do see the boot time of my map updater cut in about half when i turn my antivirus off.

Keep in mind any delay can be caused my many many things.

1. fragmented hard drive (number one cause)
2. virus scanner scanning the files
3. Loading the .net libs
4. Memory caching

Any of the above will effect loading/running of application.

Normal in my experience, the updater's always taken a while to load for me...

No A/V, running locally, updating locally...

Another reason the updater takes a while to "load" is that the downloads are done on the main UI thread, and they start when the program loads, rather then after the program has loaded. The updater is downloading while it is loading, you just can't see it for a while.
