Profit UI Updater Java app not running
Today I downloaded the Profit UI updater, i heard it was alot easier to get Profit this way as it basically installs itself. So everything was going great, downloaded it and then got to the webpage with the orange 'Launch' button on the top right, i hit that and it downloads a file super quick, window disappears and then nothing happens. This was in Internet explorer, so i tried it in Firefox. I download it, and save the program to my computer, all looks well.
I find the program in my downloads file, its just called profitui with the little java symbol, i launch it, and nothing happens, ive disabled firewalls and everything to no avail. Can anyone tell me why this java app isnt running?
I have Java and to make sure, i uninstalled java and reinstalled it, restarted the computer and ran the profitui java app again and got nothing once again.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Well, the updater isn't something you download. It's a JNLP link that has to be run (not downloaded) in Java within the browser, which then installs/caches the updater within the Java code library on your computer. In the process it also creates the desktop link that'll re-run the updater now that it's installed.
What you need is to first have Java installed (the JRE), and have a plug-in called the Java Deployment Toolkit present in your browser (to check in Firefox, type "about lugins" into the URL bar or look in Tools | Add-ons | Plugins).

What do you mean by the updater isnt something you download? I had to hit the big "download" button here on eq2interface and save the .zip file to my desktop in order to get to the URL page.
I have the latest version of Java and I checked in firefox and the Java deployment toolkit addon is enabled in the browser.
So the problem still stands unfortunately, when I try to run the JNLP link from the browser to cache/install the updater, it looks like it downloads something super quick, and next to my cursor the little 'wait' ring pops up like the computer is doing something, but then goes away after a few seconds and does nothing. Ive been patient with it and let it sit for up to 20mins after Ive clicked this link and the computer just sits there doing nothing.

Ok, so I tried installing the Profitui updater on another older computer that has eq2 on it, did the exact same steps on using on my current computer and it loaded right up, logged into eq2 and everything works perfectly.
So it seems like my computer is blocking java or something?

On a hunch, check your firewall settings. I had a simalr problem with I got a new computer with Win 7 (64-bit) It turned out to be the firewall.

What exactly did you do to your firewall? Im currently running the windows firewall (Win7 32bit) and Microsoft Security Essentials. Ive gone through windows firewall and manually allowed java through the firewall, still not running. Then I turned off the firewall all together, as well as turned off real-protection on MSE and it still didnt run, it certainly looks like its getting blocked but I dont understand what it could be getting blocked by since it wont run with (what i think) is all of my firewall/antivirus stuff turned off entirely

Hmmmm... another possibility is that you may need to run it as administrator. If you right click the icon there should be an option to run the application as administrator.

Well I ended up just downloading the file, and manually installing profit, changed the .ini file and everything works great! eq2maps messed up, but a quick run of eq2maps updater fixed that and im happy with my new UI!
Thanks for all the help, even though the problem never was actually 'fixed', i did learn alot along the way lol

I just fixed the same problem on my machine.
I had been running EQ2 on the laptop (crafting) with no problems lately. I finally decided to come back to the desktop and play some. The ProfitUI updater would never start (it ran fine on the laptop).
A comment earlier in this thread told me what I needed to do. My laptop uses Windows 7 and the standard firewall. My desktop uses Windows XP and I use ZoneAlarm as the firewall. Sure enough, somehow, ZoneAlarm had categorized the program Java(TM) Web Start Launcher to BLOCK instead of ALLOW.
Once I changed this setting, it runs fine on the desktop.
