either re-download the updater and re-install or re-run the .jnlp file you originally downloaded.....it will fix your issues.

I've tried running the jnlp file again, to no avail. I'm running Windows 7 64bit. Is there a known issue with this? Also have Java update 14. Thanks.

Default Work Around Java update issue.

If you go to http://updater.pala.de there is a button to launch the updater that works. It's not a fix but there haven't been any updates since June 6, 2009. I imagine there will be after the 16th, and you should be able to get it that way.

It's the same thing after every Java update, the Java cache gets cleared and your old shortcuts stop working. Fix them as described in the FAQ.

If it does not work, you likely installed it incorrectly. Always try a clean install before reporting bugs.

Thanks!!

I'll try this when I get home from work. If I remember...... I'll end up pulling up in my driveway and wonder what it was I was going to do

Actually it is even the preferred way to install it through the website and not through the downloaded file. Chance is good it will fix itself automatically that way. But it's not like anyone ever listened to me with that issue :P

I'll update the download to include only a link, have been ignoring you far too long on that.

I'm also running Windows 7 RC1 64-bit and having issues. Ran the updater directly from the site and no joy. Java 6 splash comes up and looks like it's working, then closes w/o error.

I've also created a shortcut to the WebStart binary, provided the path to both the local and the web-based JNLP files and launched as administrator. Even tried running in compatibility mode. Still no joy.

I realize this is on me since I'm running a not-yet-released OS, but figured I would mention that it seems to be a Windows 7, 64-bit issue.

Running Windows 7 RC1 myself and had similar problems, I realised I was using the 64bit version of Java which the Updater didnt like.

Installed the 32bit version and patcher works. Altho it did take a while to pop up the GU52 warning.

Not sure what the exact issue was, but was able to get it running. Ended up reinstalling Java from the same executable I'd installed with half an hour ago and it worked this time. I'm thinking some of the background packages may not have installed and was able to force them by launching the Java Control Panel. Either way, it's working for me now.

Works for me using Java 6u14 and Windows 7 RC *shrug*
If you enable the java console it very likely will log error messages there. If you don't know how to enable java console, use an already released OS :P

Make sure you use the website to install only, as 6u14 might consider the downloaded jnlp file insecure, though this would invoke a error message...

Ah, and make sure it doesn't hide behind any other windows you have open. It gets me fooled that way once in while as it might not always take focus.
As popup messages do not create an icon in the task bar, it looks like it did not start when it starts up with the "select your eq2 directory" thingy... I might change the starting order for that once i get back from my business trip...

The download only has an .url now, sir. /salute

The point about it not taking focus is a good one, had that once or twice. Also first startup after install can take a really long while for some reason.

If you have a small upload bandwidth it just takes some time to transfer all your personal data...

No idea really, it is planned Java dynamically downloads the packages it needs after invoking a webstart application. I don't know if they have implemented that already...

Hi Kaldran,

I tried reinstalling the updater, but install fails with an exception since Java says the file signature can't be verified:

JNLPSigningException[Signatur der Startdatei konnte nicht verifiziert werden. Die signierte Version stimmt nicht mit der heruntergeladenen Version überein.]
at com.sun.javaws.jnl.LaunchDesc.checkSigning(Unknown Source)
at com.sun.javaws.LaunchDownload.checkSignedLaunchDescHelper(Unknown Source)

at com.sun.javaws.Launcher.launch(Unknown Source)
at com.sun.javaws.Main.launchApp(Unknown Source)
at com.sun.javaws.Main.continueInSecureThread(Unknown Source)
at com.sun.javaws.Main$1.run(Unknown Source)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)

Never had any problems with the updater until lately Can you help with this? Running Win XP SP3, Java 6 Update 14. Tried in FF 3 and IE 7.

Thanks!

If it really really fails while launching it from the website you may want to try to uninstall it manually. Type "javaws -viewer" in Start -> Run (or just Start on Vista and Windows 7), and deinstall it from in there.

Actually to my knowledge this does only happen after using the downloaded file. Blaming GM9 again. Blaming day.

Thanks Kaldran, that did the trick. Looks like the updater didn't get uninstalled properly the first time.

Btw, install from the website in FF didn work for me, had to use IE (FF just didn't respond any more after clicking the button).

Thanks for the tip on FF, Maxpower. I was having the same problem and then I tried IE and it worked fine.

I already changed my user title in response to Landiin's post earlier today so that's ok.

Default cant download profit

so ive been trying to download the program for a couple weeks now and wanted to figure it out on my own. now im stuck and need help. i did realize that i need my firewall and virus scan settings changed so i could get the new java updates. for some reason my computer wouldnt allow the updates. but now that i have the newest version of java, and i try to install from the website, this is the message i get.

com.sun.deploy.net.FailedDownloadException: Unable to load resource: http://updater.pala.de/profitui.jnlp
at com.sun.deploy.net.DownloadEngine.actionDownload(Unknown Source)
at com.sun.deploy.net.DownloadEngine.getCacheEntry(Unknown Source)
at com.sun.deploy.net.DownloadEngine.getCacheEntry(Unknown Source)
at com.sun.deploy.net.DownloadEngine.getResourceCacheEntry(Unknown Source)
at com.sun.deploy.net.DownloadEngine.getCachedFile(Unknown Source)
at com.sun.javaws.jnl.LaunchDescFactory.buildDescriptor(Unknown Source)
at com.sun.javaws.jnl.LaunchDescFactory.buildDescriptor(Unknown Source)
at com.sun.javaws.Main.launchApp(Unknown Source)
at com.sun.javaws.Main.continueInSecureThread(Unknown Source)
at com.sun.javaws.Main$1.run(Unknown Source)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)

so i took the advice of the forum and opened java control panel and deleted the application. also deleted any folders that had anything to do with profit ui so my computer had never heard of it. tried downlaod and i keep getting the same error. so any help on this would be greatly appreciated. im not very computer savy so it might have to be in lamens terms.

windows 2000 xp is what im running. and the annoying thing is i had profit ui before and used craftin bots but could never get the 2 to coexist so i deleted profit. now that all my crafters are maxed, looking to install again but i cant.

thanx
