I get garbage on my screen

I've just installed the maps. I couldn't use the auto-updaters as it couldn't connect to the update server. Hmm. So I extracted them manually into my custom UI folder. I started EQ2 and my interface was completely screwed once I pressed 'M'. I got this screen with a lot of garbage text in it (jkl jkl jkl jkl...) and I saw again my character status bars inside that window and some half-cut button.

Anyone can help me? Seems like a serious problem.

Thanks!

Edit: "Error Getting File List:
The underlying connection was closed: Unable to connect to the remote server."

And I also noticed that when I press the XML file in my main UI folder it cannot be displayed as it's not in a valid XML format:

Only one top level element is allowed in an XML document. Error processing resource 'file:///C:/Program Files/Sony/EverQues...

<include>eq2map/window_external.xml</include>

What you described indicates an improper installation.

BEFORE you open the map window, does everything work fine?
Is there a 3D render?
Is your player window visible?

What normally causes what you're describing is XML files placed in the wrong place. Make sure eq2ui_mainhud_map.xml is in your custom UI folder (it obviously is else you'd be seeing the default map) and all the other EQ2MAP XML files are within an EQ2MAP subfolder of your custom UI folder.

Ignore the "invalid XML format" warning. It's invalid by website XML standards, but not by EQ2 UI standards. If you open it with NotePad, you'll see everything is as it should be.

As for trouble with the auto-updater, search the forums, there're a few things that can cause you to not be able to connect; proxy settings, firewalls, etc.

Ok the problem was that the images folder extracted into my UI folder and not under eq2map.

But now I have other problems. The icon representing my character on the map is a black square and the POI are also black squares. Also the world map doesn't have any background to it.

Any advice would be welcome :)

you have the images in the incorrect location.

Ok now I copied the images folder to both locations and it works. Maybe the first time it didn't work was just related to some other problem. Not sure. Anyhow it now works correctly with the images folder once just under my UI folder and then also under eq2map. I'll try getting rid of the one under my UI folder and see if it still works. Thanks.

Oh and by the way, it looks really nice and helpful to check for zones I already explored to see if I missed anything. But for new zones it can kinda ruin the discovery experience. Is there any way to turn of the POIs?

EDIT: i did, here it is http://www.eq2interface.com/download...php?s=&id=3702

That's extremely useful! Can't wait home to try it :)

Thanks!
