As you stated this is not a profit issue since profit does not modify that file.
It worked as of 5 minutes ago for me so the mechanic and the default file are not broken.
Since you cannot see the tabs your file might be corrupt in the default directory.
OR
You might have somehow shrank the window to the point you can't see the tabs.
