I dont think its related to a specific UI. I have been playing with 3 or 4 different UIs the last few weeks and had done fresh installs of eq2maps for each and had the same problem with at least 2 of them.

In case you used the manual install it doesn't have the flashy icons update yet I think but they should show regardless. Someone (...) will need to update it.
Otherwise a fresh (clean) install from the updater should always be .. well.. up to date.
