The only mod I'd consider a must have is
EQ2MAP which adds user created maps for zones which do not have official maps plus user submitted Points of Interest (POIs).
Other mods are personal preference. Maybe play a little with the default interface and only then look for mods so you can appreciate what they are about.
Oh and don't go asking for mods you had in WoW, if they don't exist already for EQ2 that's almost certainly because they can't be done.
