tntent: Odds are the UAC is borking things up for you (after all, the UAC's main purpose is to prohibit automated things to happen in the background without the user's knowledge). Try running Excel as Administrator (right click on the executable and choose Run As Administrator), then open up the configurator (through Excel) and make your changes and such.
Another thing that may be doing it is you might have macros disabled in Excel (this security setting may or may not be overridden by running Excel as administrator).
