The reason behind the separate download is simple: Those files will never change. If I had them in every download you would have to download an additional 1.69 MB every time you want to update the UI. While you probably don't care as a user, I'm sure Dolby (the owner of eq2interface) appreciates that I try to keep his bandwidth usage as low as possible.
Of course, if you use the auto-updating version of ProfitUI it will take care of those background images for you.
Regarding the browser tabs that's unfortunately not possible at the moment. At least not for a dynamically configured homepage. I could of course implement this in a way that you would have to configure the homepage manually in a file (same thing as the bookmarks really). Not sure if that's much better than the existing bookmarks though. Do you think?
