Actually I disagree that this is a hardware issue.

I think it's a video driver issue. Update your drivers.

The thing is, by default WindowsXP skips the BSOD and just restarts you. To make sure your windows XP isn't doing this, do the following (takes from a M$ KB article):

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

2. Click the Advanced tab.

3. Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings to open the Startup and Recovery dialog box.

4. Clear the Automatically restart check box, and click OK the necessary number of times.

5. Restart your computer for the settings to take effect.

Then when EQ2 does this again you'll get a BSOD and can take down the error message and see what it means.

That is, of course, only if my suspicion is correct and it isn't a hardware issue. But I had experienced a similar thing quite some time ago.
