It was the "Smooth Fonts" option that did it. Oddly enough (probably because my graphics card is less powerful than my wifes), with Smooth Fonts off...while the font was what I wanted, it pretty much broke the legibility of the game...everything got scratchy and fuzzy, and text got hard to read. I'm sure the font settings for the two PC's are different, but I simply resorted back to the Smooth Fonts option being on for legibility purposes. :P
