Aye, the middle areas are actually the roof and the courtyard of the castle (although kind of difficult to tell that without actually making an attempt to look and try to recognize anything. In game, they are a dark brownish/redish sort of color (actually just looks like dirt at first, rather than roof tiles).
BTW, glad someone finally got around to mapping this out....was getting tired of seeing a different floor than what I was actually on.
