I think I need to rewrite that part of the instructions. The assign buttons don't assign a UI to a character, they assign the window placement/size last set by that chracter to the UI.

Let me try to give you an example. Let's say I have 4 characers, Adakud, Adrasteia, Anaitis, and Ophis. I also have 4 UIs, BlackMarble, Fetish Nightfall, Kithicor, and Tablets II. I want to set up each character so that they can use a different UI, but I also want to make sure that my windows show up correctly based on the UI I select, regardless of which charater I acually load into the game as.

I load UISwitcher, set BlackMarble as my selected UI, login as Adakud, and set my windows the way I want them. I now exit EQ2 and reload UISwitcher. In the UIS Files Manager I assign Adakud's UIS File to BlackMarble. Now, whenever I load BlackMarble the window positions/sizes I set as Adakud will be applied no matter which character I load in as.

I load UISwitcher again, set Fetish Nghtfall as my selected UI, login as Adrasteia, and set my windows the way I want them. I exit EQ2 and reload UISwitcher. In the UIS File Manager I assign Adrasteia's UIS File to Fetish Nightfall. Now, whenever I load Fetish Nightfall the window positions/sizes I just set as Adrasteia wil be applied no matter which character I load as.

I repeat the process for Anaitis/Kithicor and Ophis/Tablets II.

Now whenever I run UISwitcher, regardless of which of my 4 UIs I select, my windows will show up in the right position/size no matter which character I select once I load EQ2.

Unfortunately, without opening some serious security holes I can't turn UISwitcher into character selection utility that will associate a UI with a character, so unless/until that changes I'm forced to associate window size/placement with the UI and make it character independant.

Edit: Please note that you will not be able to simply camp to character select, load a new character, and ave a different UI applied. You must camp to desktop, load UISwitcher, change the selectd UI, and reload into EQ2. I'm afrad there's no way around that at the moment.
