Sgt Pitt, if EQ2 is still loading for you, but you're not seeing POIs or maps, it's more likely that there's something wrong with your custom UI folder or eq2.ini.
The updater problems affect a very tiny amount of people and typically just mean they don't get the absolute newest files for a day or two.
Post the contents of your eq2.ini file for starters and we'll go from there.
