Per the message in the updater, I am posting this problem with some observations. The crash seems to happen whenever there are a largish number of updates (most days of late). It also seems to be when there are only one or maybe 2 updates left although the progress meter usually sticks at 50+%.

If another application is already open at the time of the crash, you can change focus to it by clicking on its window. I am not sure the existing application remains totally functional. You can even start a new application by double clicking on a desktop icon. However, those new applications (including Task Manager) will hang during startup or shortly thereafter. In all cases the system tray (mine autohides) will not raise and I have to resort to the Reset button to get the PC back.

I am running WinXP Home on a 2.8 GHz P4 with 800 Mhz FSB, 1 Gb of memory, Integrated NIC and an ATI 9800 XT (Pro I think it was).
