I have tried several times to use the updater and keep getting this message, any help would be appreciated!

Make sure that if you have a firewall running, it's letting the updater connect.
Also, if you only get the error sporatically, and on one or two files only, it's probably just an internet hiccup -- you only notice it here because the updater is hand-coded and (to my knowledge) just spits out an error instead of retrying a file.
