Big, Nasty Bug when updating existing interface info...

When I try to edit an existing interface and I click some of the BBCode buttons above the textarea where the file description goes -- namely, the Insert Link and List buttons -- I trigger a nasty bug.

The Insert Link button just pops up a window that says "404 - File not found!" The List button, though...whoa!! I keep getting that little window over and over again, and it just spams "[*]undefined" in the text area when I try to close it, then it pops up again. It just won't die! I had to close my entire browser window (with multiple tabs open, with stuff I was working on) to make it stop. :(

Those are the only two buttons I tried, and after the List fiasco, you can bet I'm not pushing any more buttons unless they say "Submit" on them. :p

Weird I'm not getting any 404's on my admin account or my normal account when editing interfaces in the database. Tested Inserting links and lists.

Maybe you have the old java cached? Try an ALT-F5 when on the edit screen and then try the buttons? Are you using the standard editor or the wysiwyg (I've tried both and they work fine for me on both accounts)?

I have had Firefox 2.x get a little goofy on me with a ton of tabs open running multiple java apps.

Any one else having this problem?

You get the "[*] undefined" if you don't mark any text, click the ist button and then decide to not have a list after all. The popup tells you to click cancel, but if you do that you'll get the[*] undefined and the popup comes up again. You'll have to click ok instead, that works (it will still enter the {list} tags, you'll have to manually remove them). It's a bug, but really minor, so I never bothered to report it.

I'm not browsing with Java enabled btw, only JavaScript, browser is Opera. Behaviour may be different in the Java editor.

Dolby: I'll try it again to see if I still have problems; I'll let you know how it goes.

GM9: I didn't get anything in the popup window...it was 404 error, and there were no buttons. :-/ If I had anything to click, I would have clicked it, hehe. Instead, trying to close the 404 popup just resulted in this endless loop: I close the popup, the window gets spammed with "[*]undefined," and the window pops up again. It really was terrible...I couldn't do anything in any other tabs. I had to use Ctrl+Alt+Del to close the whole browser window.

I know, I just thought that my "issue" might be related to help Dolby track it down.

Ok, I've done some more testing. I'm still getting the popup window with the 404 error in it when I try to use the editor buttons to make certain changes to my description text.

I tested all of them, and these are the buttons that are resulting in errors:
- Ordered List
- Unordered List
- Insert Link
- Insert Email Link
- Insert Image

Basically, any button that generates a popup window triggers this bug.

One of the URLs I'm seeing this behavior on is
http://www.eq2interface.com/download...le.php?id=4202
I'm actually getting this bug on all of my interfaces when I try to edit them.

The List buttons cause the biggest headache. Everything works ok for the Lists if text is highlighted; if there is no text highlighted and either of the List buttons is clicked, the popup/spam loop-of-death is triggered.

For the other buttons, I just get a popup window with the 404 error in it.

I've tried a hard refresh (Ctrl+F5), but no change. If you need me to send you the source code of the page I'm seeing, I do have it saved.

What browser are you using? I still cant reproduce the problem. :(

Please email the html to dolby at eq2interface.com

I'm using IE 7.0.5730.11. I don't get these errors when using Firefox 2.0.0.3 or Netscape 8.0.4; the popups seem to display properly and work as intended with both of the Mozilla browsers.

It seems this problem with IE has only been since the site upgrade; I'm still using the same browser, but I never had issues like this before when updating my mod descriptions.

The code will be on its way to you shortly as a .txt attachment...

Seagoat 04-27-2007 08:46 PM

Heya Dolby, I just want to make sure you got the email I sent yesterday with the .txt attachment.

If not, let me know; I can try to send it from my Gmail account.

For the record, I'm still getting this error. :-/

Dolby 05-04-2007 01:35 PM

Hi Seagoat, yes I received your email and looking at the html I dont see anything wrong. I am not able to reproduce this error at all so I'm not sure what it could be. If its happening in only one browser I can only guess that maybe some how it has cached an old version of the text editor's java script.

You can try using the standard editor by going into the USER CP >> Edit Options >> (all the way at the bottom) Message Editor Interface. Change it to Standard.

Not sure how to help you.

Seagoat 05-06-2007 04:09 PM

I'm not sure what I can try to fix it, but manually typing the BBCode tags or making sure I've got text highlighted before I click a formatting button is working for now.

I'll let you know if anything changes -- if it gets worse, somehow, or magically disappears.
