Running EQ2Map Under Vista
When I start EQ2Map under Vista I get this message:
Error Getting File List: System at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() at System.Xml.XmlDownloadManager.GetNonFileStream(Uri uri, ICredentials credentials) at System.Xml.XmlDownloadManager.GetStream(Uri uri, ICredentials credentials) at System.Xml.XmlUrlResolver.GetEntity(Uri absoluteUri, String role, Type ofObjectToReturn) at System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.OpenUrlDelegate(Object xmlResolver) at System.Threading.CompressedStack.runTryCode(Object userData) at System.Runtime.CompilerServices.RuntimeHelpers.ExecuteCodeWithGuaranteedCleanup( TryCode code, CleanupCode backoutCode, Object userData) at System.Threading.CompressedStack.Run(CompressedStack compressedStack, ContextCallback callback, Object state) at System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.OpenUrl() at System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.Read() at System.Xml.XmlTextReader.Read() at System.Xml.XmlReader.MoveToContent() at System.Data.DataSet.ReadXml(XmlReader reader, Boolean denyResolving) at System.Data.DataSet.ReadXml(String fileName) at WindowsApplication7.Form1.DownloadExtras()Unable to connect to the remote server |
Sounds like something is blocking the updater from connecting to the Internet. Windows firewall?
|
Yeah, I doubt it's a Vista issue. I've been running it on Vista for a while now without any problems.
|
Yes, that's a firewall blocking the connection. I get the same message when I try to use it from my laptop while at work. *cough* *whistles innocently* :)

Right, based on your suggestions I did some investigating. It's McAfee AntiVirus 8.5
I removed this and it's working again. I have AVG Fee Edition in it place. I guess I need to work out what the McAfee software is doing. |
It probably sees the autoupdater as a possible malicious software and blocks it... ET tries to phone home, but McCrappy says No way, Jose.
And yes, I don't care for McAffe ;) |

If you are running Vista, you aren't supposed to need any third party anti virus software. :)
