Help with EQ2MAP.

I used eq2map when I first intalled it in the reqiured folders, and it worked perfectly in the game. I overclocked my video card and it only show white squares where poi and ppl are. The world map and the cities map only show a white screen in the map area, and the names of the places to go and nothing more. What could be the problem? If anyone have any suggestions pls write back. Thanks

Things I tried without success

I turned off overclocking on my video card and it has the same problems as before.

well, if the problem was from overclocking your video card and you damaged it than you will have to buy a new video card. i am not saying that that IS the problem but if the problem is that you ruined your video card then all you can do is buy a new one. if you attached a screenshot from in game that shows the problem we may be able to offer more help.

Thanks but I don't think thats it

My video card works perfectly, the ony problem is the maps. If the video card is damaged why does everything else works? How am I playing EQ2 on balanced and it runs like a dream? That's not the problem, a little back ground I have 2 BS degrees in Computer Networking and Secutiry, A+, CCNA, MCSE. :)
So, Im not new to computers. It's a software issue. I will leave screen shot next time i log on. Thanks for your help.

Just because you have a CS degree like some of us doesn't mean you know everything.

It *could* be a minor glitch in your card, not enough to make it stop working, but enough to corrupt things. You can't say for sure just off the top of your head.

You will get "white boxes if your missing a graphics file/dds file.

I know when we know more we tend to over look the obvious or first steps (I know I do atleast) :o

If you haven't already done so you may want to delete your eq2map files (the actual xml and etc, not the program files) and let it pull them all down again.

My version uses the following file for icons on the map.
icon_map3.dds which is located here: customui\images\icons

Thank you, Faetyl

I did what you suggested and it worked perfectly. Thank you. It might not have been caused by the video card. Now that I think about it, I downloaded the manual version EQ2map and later updated with automatic version (updater). So, I don't know if that was the problem. However, I know your suggestion was the solution.

I did not mean to offend anyone, I just wanted to let you know that I am not new to computers. I understand there is a lot to computers and I don't claim to know it all...that's why Im on this site.

I erased the icon_map3.dds and eq2ui_mainhud_map.xml files and the *.dds files in the following folder: \Sony\EverQuest II\UI\inter\images\maps.

Used the updater and it worked. :nana:

Thanks again! Everyone

I think I am having the same problem. The only difference is where the dots used to be are now black squars. I am going to try the steps above when I get home.

black squars instead of dots

I have tried deleting the files but I am still getting black squars instead of the colored dots when viewing the maps.
