Nek Castle revisited

In a recent post SaintPeter mentioned he'd like to revisit the Nektropos Castle maps. He was particularly interested in the basement, but mentioned he may need to re-map all of the levels.

Here's a start. I've just re-mapped levels 1, 3 and 4. I don't have the time right now to kill the sisters to gain access to level 2 and the basement; hopefully soon. (is there a work-around?)

These renderings are very rough and will need a bit of massaging. The raw SVG and log files are in the attached ZIP.

Looking good there - Once I've got all 5 levels, I'll smoosh 'em together.

One thing that would be quite helpful is if you could get screenshots of the various floor coverings. Zoom all the way out, look straight down, turn off your HUD (F10) and snap a screenshot. That will enable me to use it as a basis for the textures in the map. If you switch to almost-super high quality mode for the shots, that's nice too.

Thanks! Look forward to getting a fully functional map down there.

Very nice Screenshot!

One thing that can help, though, is if you can line up the straight lines with the bottom of the screen - Then I can use the rectangle marquee tool to grab 'em.

I'm going to start work on what I have, since I can do the top floors largely independantly of the basement.

here we go... i've added a couple of fixes to the first floor. minor, really. i've finished the second floor and the basement. and i took an inventory of the flooring types and locations.

let me know if there's anything else i need to submit.

btw, it seems the gamma on my monitor is pretty low. the screencaps came out dark. :(

some preview pics are attached.

ps. red lines indicate a change in level. blue indicates fixes.

Brilliant use of color! Absolutely brilliant! I had almost given up on using color in my maps since I usually get rid of it before I send it to photoshop. I noticed how you had started to use it when I started editing what you had.

Very cool.

I'm away this weekend, but I've already started on what you sent me. Thanks!

BTW, these pictures are also perfect. I always have to deal with Gamma issues and Photoshop can handle it well.

It looks like you might not have a torch equiped? My best samples are usually from right near my character where there is a pool of light right in front of him. Dunno.

Anyway, as I said, these look brilliant and I'll be able to do it for sure.

i've also included a cap of the 2nd floor roof,
as seen from the 3rd floor. it's difficult to make
out, but it's covered in large red tiles
I had been wondering about that, too. I was going to just wing it and use some wood roofs from DFC, but clearly that won't work. I don't think I will be able to pull the color out of that screenshot, but I can get the shape and paste some color over it.

/me rubs his hands together
