Ige?

I stop by here still occasionally, but I am pretty busy with work and school.

I was a little caught by surprise today when I logged in though.

Maybe, I have been missing it, and it's not new, but.

The banner advertisement at the top of the forum is for IGE?

Did SOE buy IGE or something? I know they started up the Station Exchange Servers just about the time I left the game, but weren't they still against IGE, since it wasn't an official and sanctioned Station Exchange site?

Wasn't IGE owned by Sony all along? :D Kidding...

I imagine IGE is attempting to corner the market on in game purchases and may have offered eq2interface a nice "reward" for customer referals.

I never understood those banners anyways, I'll usually don't go through them to navigate to a site and if I ever do click on them it's to play those shootem games real quick.

I say we all click on the banner every visit just to help ol eq2interface out. ;)

Just like an advertisement on TV the ads are there to pay the bills so we can provide this service (eq2interface) to you guys. July was just a date where our previous advertiser’s contract was up.

Well, yes I understand the reason for the banners.

The question I had was probably out of pure ignorance, and perhaps a misunderstanding about the eq2interface.com website.

For some reason I had it in mind that the eq2interface.com site was SOE created and sponsored by Sony for the mod community.

I was thinking that advertising for IGE would be a no no, since as I understand using IGE is against the EULA for the game.

Like EQ2interface being an 'official' affiliate site to EverQuest II, and the IGE banner being a potential violation of that.

But as I said, I'm don't know.
The post was more of a question about that I guess.

Sorry mis-understood what you asked.

We really appreciated the support SOE gave our sites in the past year. However they found they could no longer afford to support us the same way they have been over the past year. They do continue to support us by advertising on one of our sites but unfortunately another advertiser is needed so we could pay the bills. I just want to make it clear that SOE has been really great to us and we appreciate any support they give us.

IGE has advertised with us in the past on eqinterface when we grew way too fast and were in need, so we went back to them to see if they were interested since we were in need again. We were assured by SOE that if we choose this company for an advertiser here that their official support of devs like bobble posting here would not stop.

What IGE does may (or may not) violate the EQ2 EULA however they are just an advertiser and a means to keep the sites running and does not mean we agree or support what they do. If anything their money is being put to good use supporting our sites.

EQInterface.com , EQ2Interface.com , WoWInterface.com and soon VGInterface.com were all created by Kudane and Myself. SOE liked what we were doing for their game members with the sites and supported us but they never owned or controlled any of our sites.

Hope that answers some of your questions.

II really do appreciate the explanation Dolby!
I totally agree that it would be a great loss to the community if certain members were unable to post and point mod authors in the right direction when they needed it.

I doubt that I am going be able to to be very active or even try out VGSOH, but if my schedule allows me, you can bet it is going to be temping, and I'll be heading to the VG site you mentioned.

It really is a shame though that SOE has not be able to continue any help it was providing.

Again, I can't tell how nice it's been to be a part of this community, and it has totally motivated me to go back to school and attempt to make the career change into the software industry. Good luck!

I'll be keeping my eyes on VGSOH for the future!
