ThorUI installer

I've just uploaded version 3.3 of the ThorUI as an installer "exe" file that will install the ThorUI and allow a user to uninstall via control panel.
Anyway, after uploading i'm wondering if that will be an issue as all mods I've seen come as zip files that the user has to manually install/setup.

Guess i'll find out soon enough but I thought I would ask here real quick possible answering the question for others who may also choose to make an installer.

Thanks,
Thor/Faetyl

You installer is nice because it allows for the custom installation. I like being able to pick between options, but I don't know what my options are. Get rid of the pictures of that you have, and put in pictures of the UI and it's options.

I'd prefer if you at least used some manner of bypassing the installer and just opening the archive. I want direct access to the files when I try to open it with WinZip or 7-zip or another archive manager. I do not need Start menu icons, I do not want registry entries.

When I used the uninstaller, it opened up http://www.eq2interface.com/download...fo.php?id=3859 three times! I don't want to be harassed when I uninstall it. I just want it to go away.

Thank you

My intention with providing an installer was to make things as simplistic as possible for those who want to use a UI but lack the technical skills to manage it.
I'll see about providing my source files for you and anyone else that would rather manually manage these files as I understand your concerns.

As for the web link call in the installer, I asked in my posts before adding the option if anyone objected, and had no replies.

I along with you can't stand pop ups and what have you, but I thought this may make life easier for the non-technical. Opening it 3 times was a goof up on my part and I apologize.

I actually already removed the auto web links at install and have removed them entirely for the new version that is in beta.

As for having pictures in my installer of the various UI pieces, I would love to but I'm not that good yet. I actually used what I would call "A guided dummies installer" to make the package for ThorUI. Don't get me wrong its nice and does a great job but lacks the ability to add customization like you mention.

I am working on learning more regarding programming as its an interest of mine but for now I'm officially "just a EQ2 UI modder without programming skills". :o

you might want to check out nsis for an installer, its what i use for the installation of the eq2map updater, and is very customizeable, and FREE! :D im just lazy, you can put custom images in it and such, just check it out at least since it wont cost you anything.
you can write all kinds of functions for it(if you want to, but you dont have to). an example is one day when i have some time i could add a check for if the .net framework 1.1 or greater is installed to end the "it wont start and give x135 error" threads in the support section for eq2map :D

http://nsis.sourceforge.net/

and then get HM NIS EDIT, which is a gui editor for it that makes it really easy to create the install scripts.
