Examine troubles
 

Could examine be remapped to a key, key and click combo (shift+lclick), or double click?

I use mouse-keys and this would make examining much easier... :)

Not currently possible. We have no way to activate right-click menu items, double-click, or capture and pass the item ID to the Examine window.
