IRC plugin for EQ2

Hi,

is it possible to include an irc window to chat ingame with people on irc? That would be really cool. :nana: Is there any way to do this? (Stupid suggestion of alternate reality removed.)

You could set your IRC client window to be always on top, place it in a convenient spot and use it to chat...

But this only works in window mode, doesn't it?

Haven't tried it yet (@work atm) but I'm actually looking for a real ingame solution. I just recently heard of an ingame mp3 player for eq2...

No, it's not possible. Submit to windowed mode. :p

hmmm, such a pity... :(

The in-game MP3 player you mentioned, by the way, isn't actually an in-game MP3 player. It's an external program that looks at your log file and can execute its own functions based on what gets added when you type certain things.

I suppose you could write some kind of mIRC plug-in that would do something similar, but it would be send-only. Member(s) of the EQ2 development team have clearly stated that using any external program to insert data into the game is a violation of the EULA/TOS (paraphrased). This means there would be no way to see what other people are typing in IRC, making it effectively useless.

It may be possible to have a window running on top of the full-screen game with some in-depth DirectX programming; but even if it is, it would really have nothing to do with EQ2. :p

First of all thanks for your in depth reply, Deathbane27. :)

It's obviously useless in writing a mirc plugin or fiddle around with some directx stuff to get irc working ingame.

Actually I just want to be able to chat with my guild while they're playing eq2 while I'm idling @work. Just to stay once in a while in contact with them (I recently quit playing eq2 due to some extra work i have to do). I know that you can pay some extra money and get that guild chat thing from SOE where you can chat via browser (java applet?). It just would be cool to find out a similar way without having to pay some extra fee :D
