[Released] Alternate PoI Icons

This thread is for comments/praise/complaints/suggestions regarding the Alternate PoI Icons set and the optional size-altering add-on for them (uploaded and awaiting authorization as of 3/25@10:00AM.)

Cant get it to work proper...

Hi I cant get the icons to work proper... only thing it has done is enlarged the original icons for me. But your nice icons I see nothing of.... :/

I have installed the file as you described under my custom ui folder in my case it is C:\Spel\Sony\EverQuest II\UI\steel\eq2map

I took a backup of the original file and then copied your version of window_iconstyles.xml in to the \eq2map folder.

What am I doing wrong?

Sounds like you installed the display size add-on and not the actual cons themselves. Make sure to download both the Alternate PoI Icons and the Alternate PoI Icons (10x10 Display).

Miyy 04-01-2005 09:54 AM

That solved my problem! Sorry for that I feel a bit sheepish, lol

Anyway Thanks a lot it now workes perfect!

Very nice icons by the way

New version released to handle individual groupmember icons, mailbox location icons (not yet implemented in EQ2MAP), and to add placeholders for future PoI categories. The 10x10 add-on works as-is, there's no need to redownload it.

depechenode 04-08-2005 12:49 PM

How do I get the individual grp icons to show, I only see the defualt red circle for each member. I have dl'ed the new POI icons and placed them in my /images/icons folder.

ger 04-08-2005 12:51 PM

Individual groupmember icons is a style XML change that Quib on just recently worked up (read: yesterday.) I think the plan is to include it as a download in the EQ2MAP Updater, but I'm not entirely sure how it's going to work. I guess for the time being I'll upload it as an optional add-on for the Alternate PoI Icons.

Quib 04-08-2005 12:54 PM

Yeah, include the modified window_imagestyles.xml file ger, and window_iconstyles.xml if you aren't already. I'll give you a big heads up if I plan to change either of them.

Quib

Iconstyles has been up for a while, just uploaded imagestyles for approval. Guess we'll have to figure out how we want to handle things with the updater and see if Taco's got any suggestions. :)

Hi Ger,
I have 4.0a installed. but i get clusters as single pois.
i also use icons 10x10

Killarny 04-26-2005 01:18 PM

That is a clustering issue, it has nothing to do with the alternate icons.

saegur 04-26-2005 01:40 PM

i also found that out afer reinstalling eq2map :)
thanks killarny

Alternate POI icons not resizing

Installed Alternate POI icons, worked great but the icons were too small to see well. I tried the 12x12 alternates but the icons remain the same size. My resolution is 1280x1024, and I thought that might be the problem, but experimenting with images in PhotoSuite does show a noticeable size difference between 8x8, 10x10, and 12x12. Anyone have suggestions?

Lexi357 04-15-2006 07:56 PM

Your not alone Lodrelhai, I too am having a terrible time making out even what the icons are, I just thought my eyes were getting really bad but even hubby and my 21 yr old kid (who has 20-20 vision btw) say they are much harder to see than they used to be. I struggle with it as I can't go back to the (pokadots) Im spoiled. I sure hope someone see's this and helps us out with a fix.

I wanna see ------> :nana: do the splits!

Hi there,

yes I´ve got the same problem got 1280x1024 running and I cant see anything because icons are way to small actual we need 22x22 something like that.

i find out how to edit it.. will post it today.. dunno when will be list on
but i add attach in this post so ppl who can't wait use this first..
8x8 little bit small for 1280x1024
10x10 is the right size for me
also come with 12x12 size

image is 10x10 size

Lodrelhai 05-12-2006 10:18 PM

The 12x12 file you posted works great.

However, the EQ2Map Updater replaces it with the smaller icons.

Folks who need the larger icons, keep the zip handy, you'll have to stick them back in each time you update. :(

FloridaFringe 05-23-2006 11:06 PM

I have noticed that the updater replaces the file each time as well. I loved using the larger ones before this started to happen but now it's more of a pain than anything else.

Having just upgraded to widescreen I'm now running at 1440x900 and getting the 12x12's to work again would be great.

Any chance getting this looked into by someone in the know? Any help would be highly appreciated. Thank you kindly.

Lexi357 05-28-2006 11:01 AM

I found that loading the thorUi it bypasses any updates to the map but the map updater does replace the file Skinnable_skinnable_styles.xml so I have been allowing the updater to update everything, but then before I log in I go in and re-extract the poi zip (I started with the 12x12 one but it is a tad too big so Im attempting the 10x10 and see if that is a more convienient size) The thing Im wondering is, should I be placing that in the sony/everquest/ui/eq2map/eq2map folder OR the
sony/everquest/ui/thorui folder I been putting it in both just to be safe, am hoping I only have to re add it to one folder to save time.

Lexi

Also I notice my fonts (chat, on screen text etc all keep changing on me too, Im not sure how or where I would "fix this" any help would be much appreciated!

Thank you!

Lexi

The only place I put the poi patch is sony/everquest/ui/maisui/eq2map folder, and it works fine. Just have to paste it back in every time I use the map updater.

I suspect the problem is file size - both the 10x10 and 12x12 skinnable_Skinnable_Styles.xml are larger than the default one. If that's the case we'll have to find a way to trim the file size while keeping the icons, find a way to get the map updater to ignore that file when it compares for updates, or just deal with reinstalling the patch every time.

You shouldnt have to do that any more now. I changed the status of the skinnable files to only download them if they are missing. It should no longer overwrite a custom skinnable file.

There's a patch version of the alternate poi icons posted by mortis42, it has the X and has a slightly lighter F5 icon - no other differences.

Hello,

Icons install with no problems. The size of the icons are my problem...they're WAY too small. I tried installing the 12 x 12 file...no change.

MY resolution is set at 1680 by 1050.

Anyone still around that could assist me? Love the look of the icons....just way too small. :(
