Do resources declared in styles but unused in the UI still eat up system resources?

Wondering if it would noticably improve performance if I stripped out all unused styles.

Just from what I've experienced with the map window, the graphics in an imagestyle (for example) aren't loaded into memory until something using that style is displayed.

You could probably test if data is loaded by using filemon (I think that's its name) to see if the graphics files are getting accessed at load time for an unused style.
